Ljubljana (also known as Laibach and by other historical names) is the capital and largest city of Slovenia, its political, economic, cultural and educational centre.

For the first time Ljubljana was mentioned in the first half of the 12th century. It was the historical capital of Carniola, one of the Slovene-inhabited parts of the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation, or Habsburg Monarchy. It was under Habsburg rule from the Middle Ages until the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918. After World War II, Ljubljana became the capital of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia, incorporated into the communist Yugoslavia. After achieving Slovenian independence in 1991 Ljubljana became the capital of the new state.

How to get from Ljubljana to the airport

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport - the only Slovenian airport which handles scheduled commercial flights - is located in 25 kilometres from Ljubljana. You can reach the airport from the city by different ways: by bus, by shuttle minibus, by taxi or by private transfer.
