Rome–Fiumicino International Airport "Leonardo da Vinci" (FCO) is an international airport in Rome, Italy. The airport is located at 32 km from Rome city centre. It is the busiest airport in the country and in 2021, it ranked as the 17th busiest airport in Europe by passenger traffic with 11,662,842 passengers served.
The airport served as the main hub for Alitalia, the then flag carrier and largest Italian airline, which terminated operations on 15 October 2021. It currently serves as a hub for Vueling, a Spanish low-cost carrier owned by International Airlines Group and is now the main international hub for Alitalia's successor ITA Airways, which replaced Alitalia on 15 October 2021.
How to get from Fiumicino Airport to Rome
Train
You can reach the centre of Rome from Fiumicino Airport with the Trenitalia train service. From the train station, located in the airport area close to the arrivals and departures terminals, you can reach the city centre via numerous and frequent Trenitalia connections:
- Leonardo Express, a non-stop service for airport passengers to Roma Termini train station, every 15 minutes, with a journey time of 32 minutes. The service departs from 06:08 to 23:23
- The FL1 regional line whch runs every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends and public holidays to other stations in Rome
Bus
From Leonardo Da Vinci Airport you can use COTRAL bus service to main underground stations in Rome (Termini, Tiburtina, Cornelia, Magliana, Ostia). The Regional Bus Station is located in Terminal 1, Arrivals area. You can buy tickets at authorised sales outlets (newsagents, tobacconist’s, etc.) or on board the bus, subject to an additional charge.
There are also some other bus lines from Fiumicino Airport to Termini Train Station, Vatican, Aurelia, Ostiense. Bus stops are adjacent to exit 6 of Terminal 3 - Arrivals, bus stands no.12, 13, 14 and 15.
Taxi
Taxis are available in the arrivals areas of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Licensed taxis are white with a "TAXI" sign on the roof. The sign of the reference community is on the front door, and the license plate is on the door, rear and inside the vehicle. Fixed fare for Rome city centre (within the Aurelian Walls), including all supplements, is EUR 50. Be aware, that Roman cabbies usually do not speak English, therefore it may be useful to have the exact address of your accomodation in Rome written in Italian language.
Uber
Uber is present in Rome only with its Uber Black and Uber Lux services. The approximate cost of ride from Fiumicino Airport to Rome city centre is about EUR 50 for Uber Black and EUR 105 for Uber Lux. Consider that Uber drivers in Rome do not usually speak English, either.
