Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a ride?
We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.
What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?
If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.
If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.
How do I know if my order has been accepted?
After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.
If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
How do I change my booking?
To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.
How can I cancel my booking?
You can cancel your booking in two ways:
- Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
- By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?
If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.
If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.
Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.
How will I find my driver?
For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).
Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.
For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.
How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?
WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.
Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.
I can’t find my driver. What should I do?
If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.
Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.
If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.
Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Private Transportation in Shanghai and Eastern China
Shanghai is China’s largest commercial centre and one of the world’s most important destinations for international business, finance, exhibitions, technology, culture, shopping, and tourism. The city extends along the Huangpu River and includes historic neighbourhoods, modern skyscraper districts, major ports, industrial areas, residential communities, universities, conference venues, and extensive transport hubs.
Greater Shanghai covers a vast area. Pudong International Airport, Hongqiao Airport, the Bund, Lujiazui, Hongqiao Railway Station, international exhibition centres, cruise terminals, and outlying districts can be separated by considerable distances. A pre-booked private transfer provides direct transportation without requiring passengers to navigate unfamiliar public transport connections or arrange several separate rides with luggage.
WelcomeTaxi provides private transfers and chauffeur service in Shanghai for individual travellers, families, executives, corporate delegations, exhibition visitors, cruise passengers, and organised groups. Transportation can be arranged from airports, railway stations, hotels, private residences, offices, factories, conference venues, cruise terminals, and other accessible pickup locations.
Airport Transfers from Shanghai Pudong International Airport
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is the city’s principal international aviation gateway. Located east of central Shanghai, it handles a large number of international and domestic flights and serves passengers travelling throughout Shanghai and the wider Yangtze River Delta.
A private transfer from Shanghai Pudong International Airport provides direct transportation to the passenger’s hotel, apartment, office, railway station, cruise terminal, or other confirmed destination. The vehicle is reserved for the booking and is not shared with unrelated travellers.
Airport pickups can be arranged according to the flight details, arrival terminal, passenger count, luggage, and required vehicle category. Depending on the group size, travellers may request a sedan, minivan, van, minibus, or larger vehicle.
Transfers are available from PVG to central districts such as Huangpu, Pudong, Jing’an, Xuhui, Changning, Hongkou, and Yangpu. Transportation can also be organised to industrial parks, conference venues, universities, ports, and destinations outside Shanghai.
Return transfers to Pudong Airport are available for early departures, evening flights, business travellers, and families. Pickup time should account for the passenger’s location, traffic conditions, terminal procedures, and the airline’s recommended check-in time.
Transfers from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) is located west of central Shanghai and primarily serves domestic and regional routes. It forms part of the Hongqiao transport hub, which also includes a major high-speed railway station and extensive local transport connections.
A private transfer from Hongqiao Airport is convenient for passengers staying in central Shanghai, the western districts, Hongqiao business areas, or nearby cities. Transportation can be arranged directly to hotels, residences, offices, exhibition venues, railway stations, and industrial locations.
Passengers should check the airport code shown on their ticket because PVG and SHA are separate airports in different parts of Shanghai. A booking simply described as “Shanghai Airport” is not sufficient to determine the correct pickup location.
Return transfers to Hongqiao Airport can be scheduled from any accessible address in Shanghai or from nearby regional destinations. Passengers should confirm the operating terminal and flight number before travel.
Transfers Between Pudong and Hongqiao Airports
Some passengers arrive at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and depart from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, or travel in the opposite direction. Private inter-airport transfers provide a direct road connection between PVG and SHA.
The two airports are located on opposite sides of the metropolitan area. Travellers should allow sufficient time for immigration where applicable, baggage collection, road travel, check-in, security procedures, and possible traffic delays.
Shanghai also has rail and metro connections between the airport areas, but a private vehicle may be more convenient for families, groups, travellers with substantial luggage, or passengers connecting during hours when public services are less practical.
Separate flight tickets may require passengers to collect their baggage and complete new check-in procedures. A generous connection margin is therefore essential.
Chauffeur Service in Shanghai
Chauffeur service is a practical option for travellers who need transportation for several appointments, multiple destinations, or a personalised programme. A private vehicle and driver can be booked for several hours, a full day, or a sequence of scheduled journeys.
Hourly chauffeur hire is suitable for corporate meetings, financial roadshows, factory visits, exhibitions, conferences, restaurant reservations, shopping, property inspections, private events, and personalised sightseeing. The driver can remain available between stops and continue according to the confirmed itinerary.
English-speaking drivers make communication easier for international passengers. Pickup locations, planned stops, waiting arrangements, and final drop-off points can be agreed before the service begins.
For complex schedules, passengers should provide complete addresses and approximate times for every stop. Shanghai contains large developments, gated compounds, extensive business parks, and buildings with several entrances, so precise instructions help avoid delays.
Business and Corporate Transfers
Shanghai attracts executives, investors, consultants, engineers, buyers, exhibition participants, and government or corporate delegations from around the world. Private transportation can be arranged between both airports, hotels, offices, conference venues, industrial districts, and business meetings.
Lujiazui in Pudong is one of China’s principal financial districts, with international offices, luxury hotels, conference facilities, and major commercial landmarks. Additional business areas include the Bund, Jing’an, Xujiahui, Hongqiao, Zhangjiang, and commercial developments throughout Pudong and Puxi.
Chauffeur service is particularly useful when a passenger has several appointments in different districts. The driver can remain available during meetings and provide direct transportation to the next confirmed location.
Vans, minibuses, and larger vehicles may be arranged for corporate teams and delegations. For factory or warehouse visits outside the central city, passengers should provide detailed addresses, local contact numbers, access requirements, and expected appointment durations.
Exhibition and Conference Transportation
Shanghai hosts major trade fairs, exhibitions, conferences, and international events throughout the year. Venues include the National Exhibition and Convention Center in the Hongqiao area, the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Pudong, and other convention facilities across the city.
During major exhibitions, hotels and roads around the venues can become busy. Pre-booked transportation helps exhibitors, buyers, speakers, and delegates plan journeys between airports, hotels, exhibition halls, offices, and evening events.
Passengers should confirm the full venue name, exhibition, hall, gate, and required arrival time. Large exhibition complexes have multiple entrances, and the most convenient vehicle access point may depend on the event layout.
Hourly chauffeur hire can cover several exhibition sessions, supplier meetings, business dinners, and factory visits within one booking. Group transportation can also be arranged for colleagues or clients travelling together.
Transfers to the Bund, Lujiazui and Central Shanghai
The Bund is one of Shanghai’s best-known destinations, offering historic architecture and views across the Huangpu River towards the Pudong skyline. Nearby areas include Nanjing Road, People’s Square, museums, hotels, restaurants, and traditional commercial streets.
Lujiazui contains landmark towers, financial institutions, hotels, shopping centres, and riverside attractions. Private transfers are available between these central districts, both airports, railway stations, cruise terminals, and accommodation elsewhere in Shanghai.
Other popular destinations include the former French Concession, Xintiandi, Yu Garden, Tianzifang, Jing’an Temple, Xujiahui, and waterfront areas along the Huangpu River.
A chauffeur-driven sightseeing itinerary allows visitors to combine several neighbourhoods in one day without arranging separate transportation after every stop. Pickup points should be agreed carefully because some central streets have restricted vehicle access or designated stopping areas.
Shanghai Railway Station Transfers
Shanghai has several major railway stations serving different high-speed, intercity, and conventional routes. These include Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai South Railway Station, and Shanghai West Railway Station.
Passengers should always check the complete station name printed on their ticket. Travelling to the wrong station can result in a substantial delay because the terminals are located in different parts of the city.
Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is part of the large Hongqiao transport hub and serves many high-speed services to destinations such as Beijing, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Nanjing, and other cities. It is located next to the Hongqiao airport area but remains a separate passenger facility.
A private railway station transfer is convenient for families, business groups, and passengers carrying substantial luggage. Pickup can be arranged from either airport, a hotel, private residence, office, exhibition centre, or cruise terminal.
For arrivals, passengers should provide the train number, station name, and scheduled arrival time. Station complexes are large, so a precise meeting arrangement may be necessary.
Shanghai Cruise Port Transfers
Shanghai is an important cruise and maritime centre with passenger terminals serving international and regional itineraries. Cruise passengers may require transportation between a port terminal, Pudong Airport, Hongqiao Airport, a railway station, or a hotel.
A private cruise transfer is especially convenient for passengers travelling with several suitcases or following a fixed embarkation schedule. The ship name, cruise company, terminal, boarding date, and required arrival time should be confirmed before travel.
Shanghai’s cruise facilities may be located far from central hotels and airport terminals. Passengers should not rely only on the term “Shanghai Port,” as the exact terminal determines the route and journey time.
Transportation can also be arranged after disembarkation. Travellers may continue directly to an airport, hotel, railway station, business meeting, or regional destination.
Long-Distance Transfers from Shanghai
Shanghai is a convenient starting point for private journeys throughout the Yangtze River Delta. Long-distance transfers provide direct transportation to hotels, residences, factories, industrial parks, tourist attractions, and other locations that may not be conveniently connected to a railway station.
Suzhou is a frequent destination from Shanghai, known for its classical gardens, canals, historic neighbourhoods, industrial parks, and international business activity. Transfers can be arranged from either airport or any accessible Shanghai address.
Hangzhou is another popular destination, combining West Lake, cultural attractions, technology companies, hotels, and conference facilities. Private transportation is useful when passengers have luggage, several stops, or a final address outside the main railway area.
Other possible destinations include Wuxi, Kunshan, Jiaxing, Ningbo, Shaoxing, Changzhou, Nanjing, and cities throughout Jiangsu and Zhejiang. The appropriate service depends on the distance, road conditions, itinerary, and required vehicle.
A regional journey may be booked as a one-way transfer, round trip, hourly service, or multi-day itinerary. For multi-day travel, passengers should provide the route for each day, planned stops, overnight locations, approximate duration, and final drop-off.
Why Pre-Book Instead of Taking a Regular Taxi?
Regular taxis and app-based transport services are widely available in Shanghai and may be practical for spontaneous local journeys. However, pre-booking provides greater certainty for airport arrivals, railway connections, cruise transfers, large groups, and complex schedules.
A private transfer confirms the pickup date, time, destination, passenger count, luggage requirements, and vehicle category in advance. Travellers do not need to search for a suitably sized vehicle after arriving at a busy airport or station.
Pre-booking is particularly useful when passengers require a van, minibus, child seat, or additional luggage capacity. The vehicle remains private and does not collect unrelated travellers.
For airport departures, exhibition visits, corporate meetings, and regional journeys, an advance reservation also provides better control over pickup instructions and timing.
Local Transportation and Useful Travel Information
Shanghai has an extensive public transportation network that includes the Metro, buses, suburban railway services, taxis, ferries, and airport connections. Public transport can be efficient, but large stations may involve long walks, security procedures, transfers, and crowded conditions.
Travelling with heavy luggage, children, elderly passengers, or a group can make public transport less convenient. A private transfer provides direct service from the pickup point to the confirmed hotel, residence, terminal, or office.
Road traffic varies according to the district, time of day, weather, exhibitions, holidays, and major events. Additional time should be allowed for airport departures, train connections, cruise embarkation, and appointments with fixed start times.
International travellers should keep their destination name and address available in Chinese as well as English whenever possible. Hotels, office towers, residential compounds, factories, and exhibition centres may have similar translated names or several entrances.
A precise address, building number, district, local contact, and map location can help the driver identify the correct pickup or drop-off point. For gated compounds and industrial facilities, visitor registration may also be required.
Private Transfers for Business and Leisure Travel
Shanghai welcomes international tourists, executives, conference delegates, cruise passengers, exhibition visitors, students, and families throughout the year. WelcomeTaxi can provide transportation for a single airport pickup, a return journey, several scheduled appointments, or a complete regional itinerary.
Services are available between airports, hotels, residences, offices, railway stations, exhibition centres, ports, factories, restaurants, tourist attractions, and destinations outside the city. Each booking is planned according to the route, schedule, passenger count, luggage, and required vehicle type.
By arranging transportation in advance, passengers receive a direct private service with an English-speaking driver and a suitable vehicle. Whether you require an airport transfer, chauffeur service, inter-airport connection, railway station pickup, cruise transfer, or long-distance journey from Shanghai, pre-booking provides greater comfort and control over your travel plans.
