Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a ride?

We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.

What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?

If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.

If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.

How do I know if my order has been accepted?

After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.

If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

How do I change my booking?

To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.

How can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your booking in two ways:

  1. Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
  2. By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?

If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.

If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.

Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.

How will I find my driver?

For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).

Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.

For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.

How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?

WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.

Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.

I can’t find my driver. What should I do?

If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.

Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.

If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.

Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from Washington Dulles Airport

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is one of the three major commercial airports serving Washington, D.C. and the surrounding metropolitan region. Located in Northern Virginia, west of the capital, Dulles is an important international gateway for Washington, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Arlington and business centres throughout the wider region.

WelcomeTaxi provides pre-booked private airport transfers from Washington Dulles Airport to hotels, residences, offices and regional destinations. Passengers can organise their transportation before travelling and continue directly from the airport with a professional driver instead of arranging their onward journey after arrival.

Private transfers are suitable for individual travellers, couples, families, business passengers and larger groups. Chauffeur service and long-distance transfers can also be arranged for journeys throughout Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, Maryland and destinations farther across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Getting from Dulles Airport to Washington, D.C.

Washington Dulles is located considerably farther from central Washington than Reagan National Airport, so passengers should allow sufficient time for the journey into the city. Transport options include the Washington Metro Silver Line, taxis, rideshare services, buses, rental cars and pre-booked private transfers.

The best choice depends on the final destination, amount of luggage, group size and whether the passenger prefers the lowest cost or direct door-to-door transportation.

Silver Line Metrorail from Dulles Airport

Washington Dulles Airport has its own Metrorail station on the Silver Line. The station is connected to the main terminal by an indoor pedestrian walkway with moving sidewalks, providing a convenient direct public transport connection towards Washington, D.C. and other parts of the metropolitan area.

The Silver Line is a practical option for solo travellers and passengers with light luggage whose hotel or destination is close to a Metro station. Trains serve locations including Reston, Tysons and central Washington, with connections available to other Metrorail lines.

Passengers staying away from the rail network may still need to change trains or continue by taxi, rideshare or bus. A private airport transfer provides direct transportation to the final address without additional connections.

Taxis at Washington Dulles Airport

Washington Flyer taxis provide official taxi service from Dulles Airport and operate around the clock. Taxi ranks are located on the arrivals level outside baggage claim.

A regular airport taxi can be convenient for passengers who prefer to arrange transportation after landing. A pre-booked transfer provides an alternative when travellers want their vehicle organised before departure, require a particular vehicle type or are travelling directly beyond the central Washington area.

Uber, Lyft and Rideshare Services

Uber and Lyft operate at Washington Dulles Airport with designated pickup zones outside baggage claim. These services are widely used across the Washington metropolitan area and provide a flexible option for passengers arranging transportation through a mobile app.

Prices and waiting times can vary according to demand. Travellers who prefer a confirmed vehicle and pre-arranged pickup may find a private airport transfer more convenient, especially after a long international flight or when travelling with several passengers and substantial luggage.

Rental Cars

Rental car companies operate at Washington Dulles Airport and provide shuttle transportation between the terminal and their rental facilities. Hiring a car can be useful for visitors planning an independent road trip through Virginia, Maryland or destinations beyond the Washington metropolitan area.

For passengers travelling directly to a hotel or business address in Washington, however, renting a vehicle also means navigating unfamiliar roads, traffic and parking. A chauffeur-driven transfer removes these additional requirements.

Why Pre-Book a Private Transfer from IAD?

Pre-booking allows the essential details of the airport journey to be arranged before arrival. The pickup, destination, vehicle requirements and passenger number can all be specified in advance.

This is especially useful at Dulles because the airport serves a large metropolitan region with destinations spread across Washington, Northern Virginia and Maryland. A journey to Downtown Washington is very different from a transfer to Tysons, Arlington, Bethesda or a suburban business park.

Door-to-door transportation also eliminates the need to carry luggage through Metro stations or arrange an additional ride after leaving public transport.

Families and groups can reserve a vehicle with sufficient seating and luggage capacity instead of depending on the size of the next available taxi or rideshare vehicle.

Transfers from Dulles Airport to Downtown Washington

Downtown Washington, D.C. is one of the most common destinations for passengers arriving at IAD. Hotels, government institutions, museums, conference venues and business districts are concentrated throughout central Washington.

The Silver Line provides a convenient rail connection from the airport towards the city centre. Depending on the final destination, passengers may need to walk from a Metro station or change to another line.

A private transfer takes passengers directly from Dulles Airport to their hotel, residence or business address, providing a straightforward option for those who prefer door-to-door service.

Dulles Airport Transfers to Arlington

Arlington, Virginia is home to major hotels, offices, residential neighbourhoods, government facilities and important destinations such as the Pentagon and the area around National Landing.

Passengers can reach Arlington from Dulles using Metrorail, often with a connection depending on the exact station. A private airport transfer provides direct transportation to the required address without changing services.

This can be particularly useful for business travellers, families and passengers arriving with several pieces of luggage.

Transfers from Dulles Airport to Tysons

Tysons is one of Northern Virginia's most important commercial centres and is located between Dulles Airport and Washington, D.C. The area contains corporate offices, hotels, shopping centres and residential developments.

The Silver Line connects the airport with Tysons, making public transport a practical option. A chauffeur-driven transfer nevertheless provides direct travel to a specific office, hotel or meeting venue and may be particularly convenient for business passengers.

Transfers to Reston and Herndon

Reston and Herndon are major business and residential centres close to Washington Dulles Airport. Both areas contain hotels, technology companies, offices and residential developments.

Silver Line stations provide convenient public transport connections in this part of Northern Virginia. A private transfer can still be useful for passengers whose destination is away from the rail stations or who prefer direct transportation after a long flight.

Chauffeur Service in Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia

WelcomeTaxi chauffeur service can be arranged for business schedules, diplomatic travel, events, sightseeing and customised itineraries throughout the Washington metropolitan region.

The area contains government institutions, embassies, international organisations, corporate offices and major event venues spread across Washington, Northern Virginia and Maryland. A private vehicle with driver allows passengers to travel according to their own schedule rather than arranging a separate taxi or rideshare vehicle for every journey.

Chauffeur service can also be useful for full-day business programmes involving several meetings or locations across the region.

Business Travel from Washington Dulles Airport

Dulles is a major arrival point for international business, government and diplomatic travellers. The airport is particularly convenient for corporate centres in Northern Virginia as well as destinations in Washington, D.C.

A pre-booked chauffeur can provide direct transportation from the airport to a hotel, office, embassy, conference venue or meeting. Hourly chauffeur service may also be appropriate when several appointments are scheduled during the same day.

For international visitors unfamiliar with the area, travelling with a professional driver can simplify transportation between locations and remove the need to navigate local roads or parking.

Dulles Airport Transfers to Bethesda and Maryland

Washington Dulles also serves passengers travelling to destinations in suburban Maryland. Bethesda is one of the most important nearby business and residential centres and is located north-west of Washington, D.C.

Public transport journeys from IAD to Maryland can require one or more Metro connections. A private transfer provides direct transportation from the airport to hotels, residences, medical facilities and business addresses across Bethesda and other parts of the Maryland suburbs.

Regional and Long-Distance Transfers from IAD

Washington Dulles Airport is well positioned for onward road travel throughout Northern Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region. Private long-distance transfers can be arranged when direct door-to-door transportation is preferable to domestic flights, trains or coaches.

This type of service is particularly useful for families, groups and passengers carrying substantial luggage. Instead of travelling into central Washington to connect with another service, passengers can continue directly from the airport towards their final destination.

For longer journeys, rail or domestic flights may sometimes be more efficient, but chauffeur-driven transfers remain useful where flexibility, several stops or direct address-to-address travel is the priority.

Washington's Three Major Airports

The Washington metropolitan region is served by three major commercial airports: Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI).

Dulles is the principal long-haul international gateway and is located west of the city in Northern Virginia. Reagan National is much closer to central Washington and primarily serves domestic and shorter-haul routes. BWI is located north-east of Washington near Baltimore and also serves both the Baltimore and Washington markets.

Passengers should check their airport code carefully when arranging transportation because IAD, DCA and BWI are separate airports located in different parts of the region.

Transfers between IAD, DCA and BWI

Private airport-to-airport transfers can be useful for passengers whose itinerary requires a connection between different Washington-area airports.

IAD and DCA are connected by the Washington Metro network, although the journey requires a transfer between lines. BWI is connected with Washington by MARC and Amtrak rail services via its airport rail station, but reaching IAD from BWI by public transport requires several stages.

A private transfer provides direct transportation between airports and can be especially convenient when travelling with several bags, children or a limited connection window.

Useful Information for Arriving Passengers

Washington Dulles International Airport uses the IATA code IAD and is located in Northern Virginia, west of Washington, D.C. The Silver Line Metrorail station is directly connected to the airport terminal by an indoor pedestrian walkway.

Official taxis, Uber, Lyft, rental cars and regional bus services are also available for passengers arranging transportation after arrival.

When booking a private airport transfer, passengers should provide the correct flight details, complete destination address, number of travellers and realistic luggage requirements. It is also important to confirm whether the flight arrives at Dulles Airport (IAD), Reagan National Airport (DCA) or Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI).

With airport transfers, chauffeur service and long-distance private transportation available from Washington Dulles Airport, travellers can arrange their onward journey before arrival and travel directly to Washington, Northern Virginia, Maryland or destinations farther across the region.
