Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a ride?
We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.
What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?
If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.
If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.
How do I know if my order has been accepted?
After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.
If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
How do I change my booking?
To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.
How can I cancel my booking?
You can cancel your booking in two ways:
- Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
- By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?
If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.
If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.
Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.
How will I find my driver?
For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).
Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.
For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.
How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?
WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.
Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.
I can’t find my driver. What should I do?
If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.
Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.
If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.
Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from Karakol Airport
Karakol International Airport (IKG) is the airport serving Karakol and the eastern part of Kyrgyzstan's Issyk-Kul Region. Located only a few kilometres from Karakol, it provides convenient access to the city, eastern Lake Issyk-Kul, ski areas, mountain valleys and trekking destinations in the Central Tien Shan.
WelcomeTaxi provides pre-booked private airport transfers from Karakol Airport to hotels, guesthouses, resorts and regional destinations. Passengers can organise their transportation before travelling and continue directly from the terminal with a professional English-speaking driver rather than arranging their onward journey after arrival.
Private transfers are suitable for individual travellers, couples, families, groups and passengers travelling with sports or outdoor equipment. Chauffeur service and long-distance transfers can also be arranged for journeys beyond Karakol to mountain resorts, villages and destinations around Lake Issyk-Kul.
Getting from Karakol Airport to the City
Karakol Airport is located close to the city, so the journey into central Karakol is relatively short. Ground transportation is primarily by taxi, hotel pickup or pre-booked private transfer.
Unlike large international airports, Karakol has a compact regional transport environment and public airport transport is limited. Arranging a vehicle in advance can therefore be especially convenient for international visitors and travellers carrying ski, hiking or other outdoor equipment.
Taxis at Karakol Airport
Taxis are the most common local transport option between the airport and Karakol. Travellers can usually arrange a vehicle after arrival or through their accommodation.
A pre-booked private transfer provides greater certainty by arranging the vehicle, destination and passenger requirements before the flight. This can be particularly useful during the winter ski season or when arriving with several pieces of luggage.
Hotel and Guesthouse Pickups
Many visitors to Karakol stay in guesthouses, boutique hotels or mountain accommodation, and some properties can arrange their own airport pickup.
Travellers who prefer an independent transfer service can book direct transportation to the exact accommodation address without coordinating transport after landing.
Why Pre-Book a Private Transfer from IKG?
Pre-booking allows the airport journey to be organised before arrival. The destination, passenger number, luggage requirements and vehicle type can all be specified in advance.
This is particularly useful in Karakol because many travellers are heading beyond the city centre to ski bases, mountain valleys, yurts, guesthouses or trailheads where local public transport may be limited.
Families and groups can reserve a vehicle with sufficient seating and luggage capacity rather than depending on the next available local taxi.
For international visitors, travelling with an English-speaking driver can also make communication easier during the airport pickup and onward journey.
Transfers from Karakol Airport to Karakol
Karakol is the principal city of eastern Issyk-Kul and an important base for tourism in the Tien Shan mountains. The city offers hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, markets and services for travellers preparing for hiking, skiing and regional journeys.
A private airport transfer provides direct transportation from IKG to a hotel, guesthouse, residence or other address in Karakol. Because the airport is situated only a few kilometres from the city, the journey is normally short.
Karakol Airport Transfers to the Ski Base
Karakol is one of Kyrgyzstan's best-known winter sports destinations. The ski area lies in the mountains south of the city and attracts visitors during the winter season.
A private transfer provides direct transportation from the airport to accommodation near the ski base or other winter destinations. Travellers carrying skis, snowboards and winter luggage should select a vehicle with appropriate baggage capacity.
Pre-arranged transportation can be particularly useful during periods of heavy snow or peak seasonal demand.
Transfers from Karakol Airport to Jyrgalan
Jyrgalan is a mountain village east of Karakol and an increasingly popular destination for trekking, skiing and outdoor tourism.
Public transport options are limited compared with travel within Karakol, so a private transfer provides a convenient direct journey from IKG to a guesthouse, yurt camp or other accommodation in Jyrgalan.
Journey times can vary according to weather and road conditions, particularly in winter.
Transfers to Jeti-Oguz
Jeti-Oguz is one of the best-known natural attractions in the Issyk-Kul Region, famous for its red rock formations, valley scenery and mountain landscapes.
A private transfer or chauffeur service can take travellers directly from Karakol Airport to accommodation or visitor areas around Jeti-Oguz without requiring a return into central Karakol.
This can also form part of a personalised regional itinerary combining Karakol with several natural attractions.
Transfers around Eastern Lake Issyk-Kul
Karakol Airport is well positioned for journeys around the eastern end of Lake Issyk-Kul. Private transfers can be arranged to villages, guesthouses, resorts and lakeside accommodation throughout the surrounding area.
Many smaller destinations are served by shared taxis or minibuses from local transport points rather than direct airport services. Door-to-door transportation can therefore be particularly convenient for travellers arriving with luggage or sports equipment.
Chauffeur Service in Karakol and Issyk-Kul
WelcomeTaxi chauffeur service can be arranged for sightseeing, outdoor itineraries and personalised journeys throughout the Karakol and eastern Issyk-Kul region.
The area offers mountain valleys, lakes, hot springs, hiking routes, ski destinations and traditional villages spread across a wide landscape. A private vehicle with driver allows travellers to follow their own programme instead of relying entirely on fixed public transport schedules.
Hourly or daily chauffeur service can also be useful for itineraries involving several destinations during the same day.
Transfers for Hiking and Trekking Trips
Karakol is a major starting point for trekking in the Central Tien Shan. Popular areas include Altyn Arashan, Jeti-Oguz and routes leading into valleys south and east of the city.
Many mountain trailheads cannot be reached directly by normal urban transport. Private road transportation can take travellers to the nearest practical vehicle access point according to road and seasonal conditions.
Passengers travelling with hiking backpacks or specialist equipment should include their luggage requirements when booking the vehicle.
Transfers to Altyn Arashan
Altyn Arashan is one of the region's most famous mountain destinations, known for hot springs, alpine scenery and trekking routes. The final approach involves rough mountain roads and may require specialised local vehicles beyond the normal transfer route.
A private transfer can provide transportation from Karakol Airport to the appropriate connection point near Ak-Suu or another agreed location, where passengers can continue with suitable mountain transport.
Regional and Long-Distance Transfers from Karakol
Private long-distance transfers can be arranged from Karakol Airport to destinations elsewhere around Lake Issyk-Kul and across Kyrgyzstan according to the required route and vehicle.
Travellers may continue west along the lake towards Cholpon-Ata, Balykchy or Issyk-Kul International Airport, or arrange longer road journeys towards Bishkek.
For distant destinations such as Osh, domestic flights from Karakol may be considerably more practical than travelling the entire distance by road.
Flights from Karakol Airport
Karakol Airport received the IATA code IKG in 2025 following its major reconstruction and reopening. The airport currently has scheduled domestic flights linking Karakol with Bishkek and Osh.
The flight network remains relatively small, so passengers should check operating days carefully before planning a journey. The airport is nevertheless an important new gateway for tourism in eastern Kyrgyzstan and significantly reduces the need for long road journeys from Bishkek for travellers whose final destination is Karakol.
Karakol Airport and Issyk-Kul Airport
Issyk-Kul International Airport (IKU), located at Tamchy on the north-western side of the lake, is the main alternative airport within the same region.
IKU is around 170 kilometres from Karakol by road and the journey normally takes approximately two and a half to three hours. It can be relevant when its seasonal flight schedule offers a more convenient connection.
For Karakol itself, eastern Issyk-Kul and nearby mountain destinations, IKG is considerably closer and more convenient whenever a suitable flight is available.
Useful Information for Arriving Passengers
Karakol International Airport uses the IATA code IKG and serves Karakol in the Issyk-Kul Region of Kyrgyzstan. The modernised airport reopened after major reconstruction in late 2024 and received its current IATA code in February 2025.
Current scheduled services include domestic flights to Bishkek and Osh. Ground transportation from the airport is primarily by taxi, accommodation pickup or pre-booked private vehicle.
When booking a private airport transfer, passengers should provide the correct flight details, complete accommodation address, number of travellers and realistic luggage requirements. Ski, snowboard, hiking and other oversized equipment should also be included when selecting the vehicle.
With airport transfers, chauffeur service and long-distance private transportation available from Karakol Airport, travellers can arrange their onward journey before arrival and continue directly to Karakol, Jyrgalan, Jeti-Oguz, Lake Issyk-Kul or other destinations across eastern Kyrgyzstan.
