Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a ride?
We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.
What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?
If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.
If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.
How do I know if my order has been accepted?
After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.
If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
How do I change my booking?
To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.
How can I cancel my booking?
You can cancel your booking in two ways:
- Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
- By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?
If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.
If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.
Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.
How will I find my driver?
For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).
Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.
For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.
How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?
WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.
Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.
I can’t find my driver. What should I do?
If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.
Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.
If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.
Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from Moi International Airport
Moi International Airport (MBA) is the main international airport serving Mombasa and one of Kenya's principal aviation gateways. Located on the mainland west of Mombasa Island, the airport provides access to the city, the Port of Mombasa, north-coast resorts and destinations throughout Kenya's coastal region.
WelcomeTaxi provides pre-booked private airport transfers from Moi International Airport to hotels, resorts, residences, offices and regional destinations. Passengers can organise their transportation before travelling and continue directly from the terminal with a professional driver rather than arranging their onward journey after arrival.
Private transfers are suitable for individual travellers, couples, families, business passengers and larger groups. Chauffeur service and long-distance transfers can also be arranged for journeys beyond Mombasa to beach resorts, coastal towns and other destinations across the region.
Getting from Mombasa Airport to the City
Moi International Airport is located around eight to ten kilometres from central Mombasa. Most arriving passengers continue by taxi, ride-hailing service, hotel transfer, rental car or pre-booked private transfer.
The best option depends on the final destination, passenger number, amount of luggage and whether direct door-to-door convenience or flexibility after arrival is the main priority.
Taxis at Mombasa Airport
Taxis provide direct transportation from the airport to central Mombasa, hotels and destinations along the coast. They are a practical option for passengers who prefer to arrange transportation after landing.
A pre-booked private transfer offers greater certainty before the flight and can be particularly useful for families, larger groups and passengers continuing directly to a beach resort outside the city.
Ride-Hailing Services
App-based ride services operate in Mombasa and can provide another option for journeys from the airport. Availability, vehicle size and waiting times can vary according to demand.
A pre-arranged airport transfer is useful when passengers prefer to have a suitable vehicle confirmed in advance, particularly when carrying several suitcases or travelling as a group.
Hotel Transfers
Some hotels and resorts arrange airport transportation for their guests. This can be convenient when the service is included with accommodation or booked directly through the property.
Travellers who prefer an independent service can arrange a private transfer directly to their hotel, villa or resort anywhere within the operational area.
Rental Cars
Car hire can be useful for visitors planning an independent journey around Mombasa and the Kenyan coast. A vehicle provides flexibility for longer stays involving several destinations.
For travellers heading directly to a hotel or resort, however, renting a car also means dealing with collection formalities, navigation, local traffic and parking. Chauffeur-driven transportation removes these additional requirements.
Why Pre-Book a Private Transfer from MBA?
Pre-booking allows the airport journey to be organised before arrival. The pickup, destination, passenger number and vehicle requirements can all be specified in advance.
This is particularly useful around Mombasa because resort areas are distributed along both the north and south coasts. A passenger travelling to Nyali has a very different journey from someone continuing to Diani Beach, Kilifi or Watamu.
Families and groups can reserve a vehicle with sufficient seating and luggage capacity instead of depending on the size of the next available taxi.
Direct airport transfers also eliminate the need to negotiate an onward journey after a long flight or coordinate several separate transport services.
Transfers from Mombasa Airport to Central Mombasa
Central Mombasa is only a relatively short drive from the airport. The city contains hotels, offices, restaurants, historic attractions and the major commercial port.
A private transfer provides direct transportation from MBA to the passenger's hotel, apartment, residence, business address or port-related destination.
Journey times depend on traffic, particularly on routes through the busy mainland and island road network.
Mombasa Airport Transfers to Nyali
Nyali is one of the most popular hotel and residential districts in the Mombasa area. Located north of Mombasa Island, it offers beaches, resorts, restaurants, shopping and leisure facilities.
A private airport transfer provides direct transportation from MBA to hotels, apartments and residences in Nyali. Travel time can vary considerably according to traffic around the approaches to the north coast.
Transfers to Bamburi and Shanzu
Bamburi and Shanzu are major resort areas farther north along the coast. They contain beachfront hotels, apartments and holiday accommodation and are frequently used by international visitors arriving through Moi International Airport.
Private transfers provide direct transportation from the terminal to the passenger's accommodation without requiring an additional taxi or local connection in Mombasa.
Transfers from Mombasa Airport to Diani Beach
Diani Beach is one of Kenya's best-known coastal resorts and a major transfer destination from Mombasa Airport. It lies south of Mombasa in Kwale County and is also served by its own smaller airport at Ukunda.
Passengers arriving at MBA can continue by private road transfer to hotels, villas and resorts throughout the Diani area. The journey is substantially longer than a transfer into Mombasa itself and can be affected by traffic and the route used to cross the Mombasa channel.
A pre-booked transfer is particularly convenient for families and groups carrying holiday luggage because passengers can travel directly from the airport to their accommodation.
Transfers from Mombasa Airport to Kilifi
Kilifi is a popular coastal town north of Mombasa, known for its creek, beaches, resorts and marine activities.
A private long-distance transfer provides direct transportation from MBA to hotels, villas and residences in Kilifi without requiring passengers to change vehicles in Mombasa.
Transfers to Watamu and Malindi
Watamu and Malindi are important tourism destinations farther north along the Kenyan coast. Watamu is known for beaches, marine parks and boutique resorts, while Malindi is a larger coastal town with its own airport.
Private transfers from Mombasa Airport provide a direct alternative to domestic flights or intercity public transport, particularly for passengers who prefer hotel-to-hotel transportation.
These are longer road journeys, so travellers should allow additional time for traffic and road conditions.
Chauffeur Service in Mombasa
WelcomeTaxi chauffeur service can be arranged for business travel, sightseeing, events and personalised itineraries throughout Mombasa and the surrounding coast.
The region includes hotels, beaches, business districts, port facilities and visitor attractions spread across a broad area. A private vehicle with driver allows passengers to travel according to their own schedule rather than arranging separate taxis for each journey.
Hourly chauffeur service can also be useful for business meetings, events or itineraries involving several stops during the same day.
Business and Port Transfers
Mombasa is Kenya's principal seaport and an important commercial and logistics centre. International travellers arrive through MBA for maritime, logistics, industrial and other business activities.
A pre-booked chauffeur can provide direct transportation from the airport to an office, hotel, meeting location or port-related destination.
For schedules involving several appointments across Mombasa, chauffeur service can provide continuous transportation throughout the day.
Safari and Regional Transfers from Mombasa
Mombasa is also a gateway for travellers combining a beach holiday with destinations elsewhere in Kenya. Private road transfers can be arranged to suitable inland destinations according to distance, route and vehicle requirements.
For very long journeys, domestic flights or other transport may be more practical, while chauffeur-driven transportation remains useful when direct address-to-address travel or a personalised itinerary is preferred.
Long-Distance Transfers along the Kenyan Coast
Private long-distance transfers provide an alternative to buses or domestic connections when passengers prefer to remain in one vehicle from the airport to their final accommodation.
Journeys can be arranged north towards Kilifi, Watamu and Malindi or south towards Diani and other destinations along the coast.
Travel times should always be planned conservatively because road traffic can vary significantly around Mombasa and on the main coastal routes.
Mombasa Airport and Diani Airport
Moi International Airport is the principal airport for Mombasa and has by far the broader domestic and international flight network. Diani Airport (UKA), also known as Ukunda Airport, is located south of Mombasa and primarily serves Diani Beach and the surrounding south-coast resort area.
The two airports are only around 29 kilometres apart in straight-line distance, but the road journey is longer because of Mombasa's geography and local transport routes.
For travellers staying in Mombasa, Nyali or the north-coast resorts, MBA is the natural airport choice. For Diani Beach, UKA can be particularly convenient when a suitable domestic flight is available.
Useful Information for Arriving Passengers
Moi International Airport uses the IATA code MBA and is located at Port Reitz on the mainland side of Mombasa. It handles both domestic and international passenger services and is operated by Kenya Airports Authority.
Ground transportation is primarily by taxi, ride-hailing service, hotel transfer, rental vehicle or pre-booked private transfer. The airport is close to central Mombasa, but journeys to coastal resorts can take considerably longer.
When booking a private airport transfer, passengers should provide the correct flight details, complete hotel or destination address, number of travellers and realistic luggage requirements. Exact resort and hotel names are particularly important for journeys along the coast.
With airport transfers, chauffeur service and long-distance private transportation available from Moi International Airport, travellers can arrange their onward journey before arrival and continue directly to Mombasa, Nyali, Bamburi, Diani Beach, Kilifi, Watamu, Malindi or other destinations along the Kenyan coast.
