Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a ride?

We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.

What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?

If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.

If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.

How do I know if my order has been accepted?

After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.

If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

How do I change my booking?

To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.

How can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your booking in two ways:

  1. Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
  2. By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?

If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.

If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.

Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.

How will I find my driver?

For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).

Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.

For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.

How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?

WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.

Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.

I can’t find my driver. What should I do?

If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.

Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.

If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.

Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from Punta del Este Airport

Punta del Este International Airport (PDP), officially Capitán de Corbeta Carlos A. Curbelo International Airport at Laguna del Sauce, is the main airport serving Punta del Este and the surrounding Maldonado region of Uruguay. Located around 20 kilometres north-west of the Punta del Este peninsula, it is particularly convenient for travellers heading to the city, Maldonado, Punta Ballena, José Ignacio and resorts along the coast.

WelcomeTaxi provides pre-booked private airport transfers from Punta del Este Airport to hotels, villas, residences, resorts and regional destinations. Passengers can organise their transportation before travelling and continue directly from the terminal with a professional English-speaking driver rather than arranging their onward journey after arrival.

Private transfers are suitable for individual travellers, couples, families and larger groups. Chauffeur service and long-distance transfers can also be arranged for journeys throughout the Maldonado region and to destinations farther across Uruguay.

Getting from Punta del Este Airport to the City

Punta del Este Airport is located outside the urban centre, so most arriving passengers continue by road. The main transport options include intercity buses, taxis, rental cars and pre-booked private transfers.

The best option depends on the passenger's destination, amount of luggage, arrival time and whether low cost or direct door-to-door convenience is the main priority.

Bus Services from Punta del Este Airport

Intercity bus services operate along the coastal corridor between Montevideo and Punta del Este, with selected services stopping at Laguna del Sauce Airport. These routes can provide an economical connection towards Maldonado, Punta del Este and Montevideo.

Bus services are most convenient for passengers travelling with light luggage and staying close to a terminal or scheduled stop. Travellers heading to villas, resorts or accommodation outside central areas may still need a taxi or another local connection.

A private airport transfer provides direct transportation from PDP to the exact hotel, residence or resort without additional changes.

Taxis at Punta del Este Airport

Taxis and private cars provide direct road transportation from the airport to Punta del Este and surrounding destinations. They are a practical option for passengers who prefer to arrange their journey after landing.

A pre-booked private transfer offers greater certainty before the flight and can be particularly useful during the busy summer season, when demand for local transport can increase substantially.

Rental Cars

Several car rental companies operate directly at Punta del Este Airport. Hiring a vehicle can be useful for visitors planning to explore Uruguay's coast independently, particularly when the itinerary includes several beaches, towns or countryside destinations.

For passengers who prefer not to drive immediately after a flight, a chauffeur-driven transfer provides private road transportation without rental formalities, navigation or parking.

Why Pre-Book a Private Transfer from PDP?

Pre-booking allows the airport journey to be organised before arrival. The pickup, destination, passenger number and vehicle requirements can all be specified in advance.

This is particularly useful in Punta del Este because accommodation is spread across the peninsula, Maldonado, beach districts, gated communities and coastal resorts rather than concentrated around a single transport hub.

Families and groups can reserve a vehicle with sufficient seating and luggage capacity rather than depending on the next available taxi.

For international visitors, travelling with an English-speaking driver can also make communication easier during the airport pickup and onward journey.

Transfers from Punta del Este Airport to Punta del Este

Punta del Este is the main destination for passengers arriving at PDP and one of South America's best-known coastal resorts. Hotels, apartments, restaurants, marinas and beaches are distributed across the peninsula and neighbouring districts.

The airport lies around 20 kilometres from Punta del Este, making the road journey relatively short. A private transfer takes passengers directly to their hotel, apartment or residence rather than requiring an additional local connection after arriving by bus.

Transfers to Maldonado

Maldonado forms part of the same wider urban region as Punta del Este and is an important residential, commercial and transport centre.

A private transfer from PDP provides direct transportation to hotels, residences and business addresses in Maldonado and can be particularly convenient for passengers travelling with luggage or arriving outside convenient bus times.

Punta del Este Airport Transfers to Punta Ballena

Punta Ballena lies between the airport and Punta del Este and is known for coastal scenery, villas, hotels and attractions overlooking the Río de la Plata.

Because of its location close to the airport corridor, a private transfer provides a convenient direct journey to hotels, private residences and accommodation throughout the area.

Transfers from PDP to José Ignacio

José Ignacio is one of Uruguay's most exclusive coastal destinations and lies east of Punta del Este. The area is known for boutique hotels, villas, restaurants and beaches.

Public transport is less direct than for central Punta del Este, making a pre-booked private transfer particularly useful for travellers staying in hotels or private properties around José Ignacio and the surrounding coastline.

Transfers to Piriápolis

Piriápolis is another important resort town west of Punta del Este and is located within convenient road distance of PDP. It offers beaches, hotels, holiday apartments and a scenic waterfront.

Some intercity buses serve the wider coastal corridor, while a private transfer provides direct transportation from the airport to the passenger's accommodation without intermediate stops.

Chauffeur Service in Punta del Este

WelcomeTaxi chauffeur service can be arranged for leisure travel, business schedules, events, restaurant visits and personalised itineraries throughout Punta del Este and the Maldonado region.

The area includes beaches, marinas, hotels, private residences, restaurants and event venues spread across a broad coastal zone. A private vehicle with driver allows passengers to travel according to their own programme rather than arranging a separate taxi for every journey.

Hourly chauffeur service can also be useful for weddings, private events, shopping trips and itineraries involving several stops during the same day.

Regional Transfers along the Uruguayan Coast

Punta del Este Airport is a practical starting point for journeys throughout Uruguay's south-eastern coastal region. Private transfers can be arranged to resorts, towns, hotels and private properties beyond Punta del Este.

Travellers whose final destination lies outside the city can continue directly from the airport rather than travelling first to a bus terminal simply to change transportation.

Long-Distance Transfers from Punta del Este

Private long-distance transfers provide an alternative to intercity buses when direct address-to-address transportation is preferred.

Journeys can be arranged from PDP to destinations farther across Uruguay according to the required route and vehicle. This can be particularly convenient for families, groups and travellers carrying substantial luggage.

For longer routes, scheduled buses may be more economical, while chauffeur-driven transportation provides greater flexibility and direct hotel-to-hotel service.

Transfers from Punta del Este Airport to Montevideo

Montevideo is one of the most important long-distance destinations from Punta del Este Airport. The capital lies west along the coastal corridor and can be reached by intercity bus or private road transfer.

A private transfer provides direct transportation from PDP to a hotel, residence, business address or Montevideo Airport without requiring passengers to change vehicles at a bus terminal.

This can be particularly useful for passengers whose flight schedule at Punta del Este does not match their onward plans or who are combining Punta del Este and Montevideo in the same itinerary.

Punta del Este Airport and Montevideo Airport

Punta del Este Airport and Carrasco International Airport (MVD) in Montevideo are the two most relevant airports for travellers visiting Uruguay's main south-coast destinations.

PDP is by far the closer airport for Punta del Este, Maldonado and nearby resorts. Montevideo Airport offers a substantially larger route network and is therefore a genuine alternative for travellers whose flight options to Punta del Este are limited.

The two airports are around 114 kilometres apart by road, making private airport-to-airport transfers a practical option when an itinerary requires travel between them.

Useful Information for Arriving Passengers

Punta del Este International Airport uses the IATA code PDP. Its official aeronautical designation is Capitán de Corbeta Carlos A. Curbelo International Airport at Laguna del Sauce, and it is located around 20 kilometres north-west of Punta del Este.

Intercity buses, taxis, private vehicles and rental cars provide ground transportation from the airport. The airport also plays an important role in private and general aviation, especially during Punta del Este's peak summer season.

When booking a private airport transfer, passengers should provide the correct flight details, complete destination address, number of travellers and realistic luggage requirements. For villas and private properties, precise location information is particularly useful.

With airport transfers, chauffeur service and long-distance private transportation available from Punta del Este Airport, travellers can arrange their onward journey before arrival and continue directly to Punta del Este, Maldonado, José Ignacio, Piriápolis, Montevideo or other destinations across Uruguay.
