Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a ride?

We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.

What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?

If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.

If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.

How do I know if my order has been accepted?

After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.

If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

How do I change my booking?

To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.

How can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your booking in two ways:

  1. Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
  2. By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?

If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.

If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.

Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.

How will I find my driver?

For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).

Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.

For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.

How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?

WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.

Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.

I can’t find my driver. What should I do?

If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.

Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.

If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.

Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from Shanghai Pudong International Airport

Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is one of the most important air gateways in China and the main international airport serving Shanghai. Located east of the city center in Pudong, the airport handles a large volume of international, regional and domestic flights. For many travelers arriving in Shanghai from Europe, North America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia or other parts of Asia, PVG is the first point of entry into the city.

Shanghai is a huge metropolitan area with multiple business districts, residential zones, hotels, exhibition centers, cruise terminals and transport hubs. Travel from the airport can be simple when planned well, but it can also become confusing for first-time visitors because of distance, traffic, language barriers and the variety of local transport options. WelcomeTaxi offers pre-booked private transfers from Shanghai Pudong Airport to hotels, private addresses, offices, serviced apartments and regional destinations, helping passengers start their trip with a direct and comfortable ride.

A private airport transfer is especially useful after a long-haul flight, late-night arrival or business trip with a tight schedule. The route, pickup time, passenger count and luggage details can be arranged before arrival, so travelers do not need to search for transport at the airport or explain their destination after landing. For families, business travelers, corporate guests and small groups, this is often the most convenient way to travel from PVG to Shanghai.

Transportation Options from Shanghai Pudong Airport to the City

Passengers arriving at Shanghai Pudong International Airport have several ways to reach the city. Options include regular taxis, metro, airport buses, the Shanghai Maglev Train, ride-hailing services, hotel transfers, car rental and pre-booked private airport transfers. The best choice depends on the final destination, luggage, arrival time, travel budget and comfort expectations.

The Shanghai Maglev Train is one of the most distinctive airport transport options. It connects Pudong Airport with Longyang Road Station, where passengers can continue by metro or taxi. This can be fast and interesting for travelers with light luggage, but it is not a door-to-door service. After reaching Longyang Road, passengers still need to transfer to another form of transport to reach hotels in areas such as the Bund, People’s Square, Jing’an, Lujiazui, Xintiandi, Hongqiao or other districts.

The metro is another public transport option from PVG. It is generally affordable and useful for passengers familiar with Shanghai’s transport system. However, the journey can be long, and changing lines with suitcases may not be comfortable after an international flight. It may also be less practical for families, travelers with large luggage, late-night arrivals or passengers staying far from a metro station.

Airport buses connect Pudong Airport with several parts of Shanghai, including major transport hubs and city districts. They may be suitable for budget-conscious travelers, but they usually require additional local transportation to reach the final address. For business travelers and visitors with fixed appointments, bus schedules and route limitations may not be ideal.

Regular taxis are available at the airport, and ride-hailing services are common in Shanghai. These options can be practical for simple trips, but passengers may still need to manage the pickup point, destination communication, waiting time and luggage capacity. For international visitors who do not speak Chinese, explaining a hotel name or private address can sometimes be challenging, especially if the address is not written in Chinese characters.

Private Transfers from PVG to Shanghai Hotels and Districts

WelcomeTaxi can arrange private airport transfers from Shanghai Pudong Airport to all major areas of the city. Popular destinations include the Bund, Lujiazui, People’s Square, Jing’an, Xintiandi, French Concession area, Hongqiao, Pudong business districts, Century Park, Zhangjiang, Minhang, Xuhui and other residential or commercial areas.

Transfers from PVG to central Shanghai usually take longer than transfers from Hongqiao Airport because Pudong Airport is located farther from the historic and commercial center. Travel time depends on the exact destination, road conditions and time of day. During peak traffic periods, trips to central or western districts may require additional time, so departure transfers to the airport should be planned carefully.

For hotel arrivals, a pre-booked private transfer provides a more comfortable door-to-door experience. The driver can take passengers directly to the hotel entrance, rather than leaving them at a metro station, bus stop or transport hub. This is especially helpful for travelers arriving with suitcases, children, business equipment or after an overnight flight.

For private residences, serviced apartments and business addresses, it is important to provide the full address in advance. If possible, passengers should include the hotel name, building name, district and address in both English and Chinese. This helps avoid confusion and makes the transfer easier to coordinate.

Transfers from Pudong Airport to Shanghai Hongqiao

Shanghai has two main passenger airports: Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). Hongqiao Airport is located closer to the western side of central Shanghai and is integrated with the important Hongqiao Railway Station. Many passengers arriving at PVG need to continue to Hongqiao for a domestic flight or high-speed train connection.

A transfer from Pudong Airport to Hongqiao can take significant time because the two airports are on opposite sides of the city. The journey may be affected by traffic, especially during peak hours. Public transport connections are possible, but they can be tiring with luggage and may not be suitable for travelers who have a tight connection.

WelcomeTaxi can arrange private transfers between PVG and SHA, as well as transfers from Pudong Airport to Hongqiao Railway Station. This is useful for passengers continuing to other Chinese cities by high-speed train, including Hangzhou, Suzhou, Nanjing, Wuxi and many other destinations. For airport-to-railway connections, passengers should allow enough time for the road transfer, station navigation and train boarding procedures.

Chauffeur Service in Shanghai

WelcomeTaxi also offers chauffeur service in Shanghai for travelers who need more than a simple airport transfer. A private car with driver can be arranged for business meetings, corporate roadshows, shopping trips, city visits, hotel-to-office transportation, exhibition visits and flexible hourly bookings. This is useful when the passenger has several stops in one day and wants to avoid arranging separate rides each time.

Shanghai is a major financial, commercial and cultural center, with business areas spread across both sides of the Huangpu River. A chauffeur service can help travelers move between Lujiazui, the Bund, Jing’an, Xuhui, Hongqiao, Pudong, Minhang and other districts more efficiently. It is also convenient for visitors attending meetings at corporate offices, consulates, trade centers, hotels or private venues.

For leisure travelers, chauffeur service can be used for visits to the Bund, Yu Garden area, Xintiandi, French Concession streets, shopping districts, museums, restaurants and selected viewpoints. WelcomeTaxi focuses on private transportation and chauffeur-driven travel; guiding services, attraction tickets and tour arrangements should be organized separately when needed. English-speaking drivers can be requested where available, helping international passengers communicate more clearly about pickup points, timing and route details.

Transfers to Shanghai Cruise Terminals and Railway Stations

Shanghai is also an important cruise and rail hub. Passengers arriving at Pudong Airport may need private transfers to cruise terminals, railway stations or ferry-related pickup points. Depending on the itinerary, destinations may include Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal, Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal, Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai South Railway Station or Hongqiao Railway Station.

Cruise terminal transfers require careful planning because passengers often travel with several suitcases and need to arrive at a specific terminal at the correct time. A pre-booked transfer allows the vehicle size to be selected in advance and helps avoid uncertainty on the day of travel. For cruise passengers, it is useful to provide the ship name, cruise line and terminal details when booking.

Railway station transfers are also common in Shanghai. Hongqiao Railway Station is one of the most important high-speed rail hubs in China, while other stations serve different routes and regions. A private transfer from PVG to the correct station helps reduce the risk of going to the wrong terminal or losing time with luggage on public transport.

Long-Distance Transfers from Shanghai Pudong Airport

Shanghai is located in the Yangtze River Delta, one of China’s most economically developed and well-connected regions. From Pudong Airport, travelers may need long-distance transfers to nearby cities, industrial zones, conference venues, ports, hotels or regional airports. WelcomeTaxi can arrange intercity private transfers from PVG depending on route, vehicle availability and passenger requirements.

Common regional destinations may include Suzhou, Hangzhou, Wuxi, Kunshan, Jiaxing, Ningbo, Nantong and other cities in the wider Shanghai region. These routes are often used by business travelers visiting factories, offices, trade fairs or regional partners. They may also be useful for families and leisure travelers who prefer a direct road transfer rather than navigating domestic trains and local taxis after an international flight.

Long-distance transfers should be booked in advance because distance, travel time, toll roads, luggage and passenger count all affect the service. For business groups, vans and minibuses may be more suitable than standard sedans. For premium or executive travel, business-class vehicles can be requested where available.

Why Pre-Book a Shanghai Pudong Airport Transfer?

Pre-booking a private airport transfer from Shanghai Pudong International Airport gives travelers a more predictable and comfortable arrival experience. The airport is large, the city is vast and many destinations require a substantial drive. Having transport arranged in advance can reduce stress and make the journey easier, especially for international passengers arriving after a long flight.

A regular taxi or app-based ride may be suitable for some trips, but it does not always provide the right level of certainty. Passengers may need to find the correct pickup area, communicate the address, wait for an available vehicle or check whether the car has enough space for luggage. With a pre-booked transfer, these details are considered before the journey.

Private transfers are especially useful for corporate guests, families, elderly passengers, cruise travelers and visitors with complex itineraries. They are also helpful for airport-to-airport transfers, airport-to-railway transfers and long-distance routes where timing matters. Instead of relying on last-minute arrangements, travelers can start their trip with a planned door-to-door service.

Local Transportation Specifics in Shanghai

Shanghai has excellent public transportation, but it is also a very large city. The metro network is extensive, taxis are common and high-speed rail connections are strong. However, for airport arrivals, the most convenient option depends on the passenger’s exact situation. A solo traveler with light luggage may be comfortable using the Maglev and metro, while a family, business traveler or group may prefer a direct private transfer.

Traffic conditions can vary significantly. Travel from Pudong Airport to central Shanghai, Hongqiao or western districts may take longer during morning and evening peaks. Departure transfers should therefore be scheduled with enough buffer time, especially for international flights or high-speed train connections.

Language can also be a factor. Many hotels and business venues have English names, but drivers may rely on Chinese addresses or map locations. Providing the destination in Chinese, where possible, is recommended. WelcomeTaxi can request English-speaking drivers where available, but clear address details remain important for a smooth transfer.

Useful Travel Information for PVG Passengers

When booking a private transfer from Shanghai Pudong Airport, passengers should provide the flight number, arrival date, pickup time, destination address, phone number, passenger count and luggage details. If the trip is to a hotel, the full hotel name and district should be included. For private addresses, serviced apartments, factories or offices, a complete address and contact information can help with coordination.

For departures from Shanghai to Pudong Airport, travelers should allow enough time for city traffic and airport procedures. This is particularly important for passengers starting from Hongqiao, western Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou or other regional destinations. The drive may be longer than expected during peak travel periods.

WelcomeTaxi provides an international private transfer and chauffeur service for passengers who want a reliable alternative to regular taxis and last-minute ride arrangements. Whether the journey is a simple airport-to-hotel transfer, a connection from PVG to Hongqiao, a chauffeur booking in Shanghai or a long-distance transfer across the Yangtze River Delta, advance planning helps make the trip smoother, more comfortable and easier to manage.
