Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a ride?
We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.
What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?
If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.
If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.
How do I know if my order has been accepted?
After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.
If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
How do I change my booking?
To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.
How can I cancel my booking?
You can cancel your booking in two ways:
- Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
- By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?
If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.
If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.
Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.
How will I find my driver?
For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).
Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.
For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.
How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?
WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.
Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.
I can’t find my driver. What should I do?
If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.
Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.
If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.
Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from San Juan Airport
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) is the main international gateway to Puerto Rico and the primary airport serving San Juan and the surrounding metropolitan area. The airport is located in Carolina, close to Isla Verde and only a short drive from many of the city’s most popular hotel areas, including Condado, Ocean Park, Miramar, Old San Juan, and the cruise terminals. For many visitors, SJU is the first point of contact with Puerto Rico, whether they arrive for a beach holiday, a Caribbean cruise, a business trip, or a longer island itinerary.
San Juan is one of the Caribbean’s most important travel hubs, with connections to the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, and selected long-haul destinations. The city combines historic colonial streets, beaches, resorts, conference hotels, restaurants, nightlife, and cruise traffic, which means airport transportation demand can vary significantly depending on time of day, season, flight arrivals, and cruise schedules.
WelcomeTaxi provides private airport transfers from San Juan Airport with pre-arranged pickup, clear pricing, and professional English-speaking drivers. Instead of looking for transport after landing, travelers can book in advance and start their journey with a planned door-to-door service.
Transportation Options from SJU to San Juan
Travelers arriving at San Juan Airport have several ways to reach the city. The best option depends on the destination, arrival time, luggage, group size, budget, and level of comfort expected after a flight.
Regular Airport Taxis
Official taxis are available at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and can be a practical choice for simple rides to central areas of San Juan. For short trips to Isla Verde, Condado, or Old San Juan, a taxi may be convenient, especially for passengers traveling light and arriving during normal hours.
However, regular taxis are not always the best solution for every trip. During busy arrival periods, queues may form. Larger vehicles may not be immediately available for families, groups, or travelers with extra luggage. If your destination is outside the San Juan metro area, the final fare and vehicle suitability may also require additional discussion on the spot.
Ride-Hailing Services
App-based ride services operate in and around San Juan and can be useful for short city rides. They may be suitable for travelers who are familiar with the local pickup procedures and do not mind waiting for a driver to accept the trip.
For airport arrivals, ride-hailing can be less predictable than a pre-booked transfer. Vehicle availability, pickup location, waiting time, luggage capacity, and surge pricing may vary. This is especially relevant for late-night arrivals, cruise days, holidays, family groups, and passengers going to destinations outside the main tourist districts.
Public Transportation
Public transportation in San Juan is limited compared with many large European or North American cities. Buses may serve parts of the metropolitan area, but they are not usually the most practical option for international visitors arriving with luggage, especially when traveling to hotels, cruise terminals, resorts, or private addresses.
For most airport passengers, public transport is not a convenient door-to-door solution. It may involve waiting, route changes, walking with bags, and uncertainty about the nearest stop to the final destination.
Car Rental
Renting a car can be useful for travelers planning to explore Puerto Rico independently, especially if they want to visit beaches, mountain towns, nature reserves, or the west coast. Many visitors choose a rental car for multi-day itineraries around the island.
At the same time, a rental car is not always necessary for a stay focused on San Juan, Condado, Old San Juan, Isla Verde, or cruise travel. Parking, city traffic, toll roads, unfamiliar routes, and hotel parking fees can make self-driving less attractive. For travelers who only need a comfortable ride from the airport and selected trips during their stay, a private transfer or chauffeur service may be a simpler solution.
Why Book a Private Transfer from San Juan Airport
A pre-booked airport transfer from SJU offers a more predictable experience than arranging transportation after landing. Your vehicle is reserved in advance, your pickup details are known before arrival, and the driver has the destination information before the journey begins.
This is particularly useful in San Juan because travel patterns can be highly seasonal. Cruise departures, hotel check-in times, evening flight arrivals, and weekend tourism may increase demand for taxis and larger vehicles. A private transfer helps avoid uncertainty at the airport and is especially helpful for families, business travelers, elderly passengers, honeymooners, groups, and travelers with sports equipment or extra luggage.
WelcomeTaxi focuses on international private transfers and chauffeur service. The goal is not only to move passengers from the airport to the hotel, but to provide a smoother arrival experience with clear communication, suitable vehicle selection, and reliable planning.
Popular Routes from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport
Many travelers arriving at SJU continue to destinations within the San Juan metropolitan area. Common airport transfer routes include Isla Verde, Condado, Ocean Park, Miramar, Santurce, Old San Juan, the San Juan cruise port, Convention Center District, Guaynabo, Carolina, and Bayamón.
For leisure travelers, private transfers are also frequently requested to beach resorts, villas, and coastal towns outside the capital. Popular long-distance routes include San Juan Airport to Dorado, Río Grande, Luquillo, Fajardo, Humacao, Ponce, Rincón, Aguadilla, Isabela, Cabo Rojo, and Mayagüez.
Puerto Rico is compact enough for many destinations to be reached by road, but travel times can vary depending on traffic, weather, road works, and whether the journey crosses the San Juan metro area. A pre-booked transfer is useful for travelers who prefer to avoid negotiating routes or prices after a long flight.
Chauffeur Service in San Juan and Puerto Rico
In addition to airport transfers, WelcomeTaxi can arrange chauffeur service in San Juan for business meetings, conferences, cruise connections, private events, sightseeing, and flexible hourly hire. Chauffeur service is a good option when the passenger needs more than a simple one-way ride.
Hourly chauffeur service may be suitable for visiting several locations in one day, attending meetings across the city, shopping, restaurant transfers, or combining hotel, port, and airport movements. It is also useful for travelers who want a private vehicle available for a defined period instead of booking separate rides throughout the day.
For visitors who want to explore beyond San Juan, chauffeur service can be arranged for regional travel, subject to route details and vehicle availability. This may include trips to El Yunque area, Fajardo, Dorado, Ponce, Rincón, or other destinations across Puerto Rico.
Long-Distance Transfers Across Puerto Rico
San Juan Airport is often used as the starting point for wider travel across Puerto Rico. While many visitors stay in the capital, others continue to beach resorts, surf towns, family homes, business locations, or smaller regional airports.
Long-distance transfers are especially convenient when the destination is outside the main taxi zones or when the trip involves a group, children, luggage, or late-night arrival. A pre-arranged transfer allows the route, vehicle type, and pickup time to be confirmed in advance.
Common long-distance transfer requests from SJU include routes to Fajardo for ferry or marina connections, Dorado for luxury resorts, Río Grande for resort stays near El Yunque, Ponce on the south coast, Aguadilla and Rincón on the west coast, and Mayagüez for university, family, or regional travel.
Connections with Other Puerto Rico Airports
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport is the main airport for San Juan, but Puerto Rico also has several regional airports that may be relevant for domestic, inter-island, or alternative arrivals. Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport (SIG), also known as Isla Grande Airport, is close to Old San Juan and is often associated with smaller aircraft and regional services.
Rafael Hernández Airport (BQN) in Aguadilla serves the western part of Puerto Rico and may be convenient for travelers going to Rincón, Isabela, Aguadilla, or other west coast destinations. Mercedita Airport (PSE) in Ponce is relevant for the southern part of the island. Smaller airports such as Antonio Rivera Rodríguez Airport (VQS) in Vieques and Benjamín Rivera Noriega Airport (CPX) in Culebra may also be part of wider island travel plans.
For travelers connecting between SJU and another airport, a pre-booked private transfer can help reduce the risk of delays, confusion, or last-minute vehicle availability issues.
Local Transportation Specifics in San Juan
San Juan is a busy Caribbean capital where travel times can change quickly. Airport traffic, cruise ship schedules, hotel check-in waves, weather conditions, and events can all affect journey duration. Roads around Isla Verde, Condado, Old San Juan, and the cruise terminals may become congested at certain times.
Old San Juan has narrow streets, historic areas, limited stopping points, and busy tourist traffic. Some hotels and private accommodations may not be directly accessible by large vehicles at all times. For this reason, accurate pickup and drop-off details are important when booking a transfer.
For airport arrivals, it is also important to consider luggage. A sedan may be suitable for one to three passengers with standard luggage, while families and groups may need a minivan, van, or larger vehicle. Booking in advance allows the vehicle class to be matched to the actual number of passengers and bags.
Private Transfers for Cruise Passengers
San Juan is a major cruise destination, and many travelers arrive at SJU before or after a cruise. Transfers between San Juan Airport, hotels, and cruise terminals are among the most common transportation requests in the city.
Pre-booked transfers are particularly helpful for cruise passengers because timing matters. On embarkation and disembarkation days, demand for taxis and ride-hailing services may increase. Travelers may also have more luggage than usual, and groups often need vehicles with enough space for both passengers and bags.
WelcomeTaxi can arrange airport-to-port, port-to-hotel, hotel-to-airport, and private point-to-point transfers in San Juan, depending on route, timing, and vehicle availability.
English-Speaking Drivers and International Service Standards
For international travelers, clear communication is an important part of a smooth arrival. WelcomeTaxi works with professional drivers and transportation partners, and English-speaking drivers can be requested for airport transfers, chauffeur service, and long-distance journeys.
This is especially useful for passengers who need help confirming the route, meeting point, luggage arrangements, hotel entrance, port terminal, or additional stops. While San Juan is used to international visitors, a pre-booked service with clear details in advance can make the journey easier and more comfortable.
Useful Travel Information for Arrivals at SJU
When booking a private transfer from San Juan Airport, passengers should provide the flight number, arrival date, pickup time, destination address, number of passengers, and luggage quantity. If the destination is a private villa, apartment, marina, cruise terminal, or remote address, it is helpful to provide the exact location and any access instructions.
For families, child seats should be requested in advance. For groups, large luggage, golf bags, surfboards, or special equipment should be mentioned at the time of booking so that the correct vehicle can be arranged.
Travelers arriving late at night or during peak travel periods should consider booking early. This is especially relevant for long-distance transfers from SJU to destinations outside San Juan, where last-minute transportation options may be more limited.
Book a Private Airport Transfer from SJU
Booking a private transfer from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport gives travelers a more organized start to their stay in Puerto Rico. Instead of comparing transport options after arrival, passengers can continue directly from the airport to their hotel, cruise terminal, resort, private address, or regional destination.
WelcomeTaxi provides airport transfers, chauffeur service, and long-distance transfers from San Juan Airport with a focus on comfort, clarity, and international service standards. Whether you are visiting Puerto Rico for leisure, business, a cruise, or a wider island itinerary, a pre-booked private transfer from SJU is a practical and comfortable way to begin the journey.
