Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a ride?

We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.

What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?

If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.

If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.

How do I know if my order has been accepted?

After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.

If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

How do I change my booking?

To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.

How can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your booking in two ways:

  1. Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
  2. By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?

If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.

If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.

Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.

How will I find my driver?

For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).

Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.

For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.

How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?

WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.

Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.

I can’t find my driver. What should I do?

If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.

Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.

If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.

Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Private Transfers from Cibao International Airport (STI)

Cibao International Airport (STI), located near Santiago de los Caballeros, is one of the busiest airports in the Dominican Republic. Serving the Cibao region in the northern part of the country, the airport is an important gateway for both international visitors and Dominican travelers returning from abroad.

Santiago is the Dominican Republic’s second-largest city and a major economic, cultural, and transportation center. Unlike purely resort-focused airports, STI serves a mix of business travelers, visiting families, tourists, and regional travelers heading to the northern coast or central mountain areas.

WelcomeTaxi provides private airport transfers, chauffeur service, and long-distance transportation from Santiago Airport with professional English-speaking drivers and pre-booked fixed pricing.

About Santiago de los Caballeros

Santiago de los Caballeros is often simply called Santiago and is considered the commercial capital of northern Dominican Republic. The city is known for its business districts, cultural attractions, universities, shopping centers, and vibrant local life.

Compared to coastal resort towns, Santiago offers a more urban and authentic Dominican atmosphere. Many travelers use the city as a starting point for exploring nearby mountain regions, beaches, and smaller towns across the country.

The airport’s location also makes it a practical arrival point for travelers heading to Puerto Plata, Sosúa, Cabarete, Jarabacoa, and other destinations outside Santiago itself.

Transportation Options from Santiago Airport

Travelers arriving at STI can choose between several transportation options depending on destination and travel style.

Airport Taxis

Official taxis are available outside the terminal. However, taxi pricing in the Dominican Republic is usually negotiated rather than based on meters. Rates may vary depending on traffic conditions, time of day, and passenger demand.

For international visitors unfamiliar with local pricing, arranging transportation after arrival can sometimes be inconvenient.

Shared Transportation

Some hotels and resorts provide shuttle services from Santiago Airport. Shared transportation may reduce costs but usually involves waiting times and multiple passenger stops before reaching the final destination.

Shared shuttles are more common for resort areas than for private addresses or long-distance routes.

Car Rental

Rental cars are available at STI through several international and local providers. Driving can provide flexibility for travelers planning regional exploration, but local traffic conditions may feel challenging for first-time visitors.

Road signage quality varies outside larger cities, and navigation in busy urban areas can require additional attention.

Private Airport Transfers

Private airport transfers remain one of the most comfortable and predictable transportation options from Santiago Airport.

With a pre-booked transfer, travelers receive fixed pricing, direct transportation, luggage assistance, and a driver waiting upon arrival. This can significantly simplify arrival logistics, especially after international flights.

WelcomeTaxi specializes in private airport transportation for individual travelers, families, business visitors, and groups throughout the Dominican Republic.

Transfers from STI to Santiago City

The airport is located approximately 15 kilometers from central Santiago. Travel times vary depending on traffic but are generally relatively short compared to other major airports in the Caribbean.

Private transfers from STI to Santiago are especially useful for:

  • business travelers,
  • families with luggage,
  • first-time visitors,
  • late-night arrivals,
  • travelers unfamiliar with local transportation.

A pre-booked chauffeur service can also provide a more professional experience for corporate transportation and executive travel.

Long-Distance Transfers from Santiago Airport

One of the advantages of STI is its strategic location for regional road travel across northern Dominican Republic.

Many travelers continue directly from the airport to coastal resorts or mountain destinations without staying overnight in Santiago.

Popular long-distance transfer routes include:

  • Santiago to Puerto Plata
  • Santiago to Sosúa
  • Santiago to Cabarete
  • Santiago to Jarabacoa
  • Santiago to Punta Cana
  • Santiago to Santo Domingo

Long-distance private transportation is particularly valuable for travelers carrying surfboards, golf equipment, or multiple suitcases, as public transportation options may be limited or inconvenient.

Santiago to Puerto Plata and North Coast Transfers

Many international visitors use Santiago Airport as an alternative gateway to the northern beach region when flights to Puerto Plata Airport (POP) are unavailable or more expensive.

The road between Santiago and Puerto Plata crosses mountain terrain and provides scenic views, but driving conditions may be unfamiliar for tourists.

Private transfers between STI and coastal destinations allow travelers to avoid bus changes, taxi negotiations, or complicated rental car arrangements.

Sosúa and Cabarete

Sosúa and Cabarete are among the most popular destinations for travelers arriving through Santiago Airport.

Cabarete is internationally recognized for kitesurfing and watersports, while Sosúa attracts beach travelers, divers, and long-stay international visitors.

Private transportation is often preferred for these routes because many accommodations are villas, apartments, or smaller boutique hotels not easily accessible through shared transportation.

Chauffeur Service in Santiago and the Dominican Republic

In addition to airport pickups, chauffeur services are increasingly popular throughout the Dominican Republic for business and leisure travel.

Professional chauffeur transportation offers greater flexibility and comfort compared to standard taxis or public transportation.

Services may include:

  • point-to-point transfers,
  • hourly chauffeur hire,
  • business transportation,
  • hotel transfers,
  • regional road travel,
  • transportation for events and conferences.

English-speaking drivers can be especially valuable for international visitors requiring assistance with communication, local navigation, or itinerary coordination.

Why Travelers Prefer Pre-Booked Transfers

Many travelers arriving at STI choose private transportation for convenience and reliability.

Fixed Rates

Pre-booked transfers provide clear pricing before arrival, avoiding fare negotiations or unexpected additional charges.

Meet and Greet Service

Drivers can meet passengers directly at the airport terminal, helping travelers navigate arrival procedures more easily.

Flight Monitoring

Professional transfer services typically monitor incoming flights and adjust pickup timing if delays occur.

Comfortable Vehicles

Travelers can select vehicle categories according to group size and luggage requirements, including sedans, SUVs, vans, and minibuses.

Reliable Regional Transportation

For long-distance travel across the Dominican Republic, private transfers often provide a more direct and comfortable experience than combining buses and local taxis.

Local Transportation Conditions in Santiago

Traffic in Santiago can become busy during peak hours, particularly near commercial districts and major intersections. Driving styles may differ significantly from those in Europe or North America.

Travelers should also be aware that:

  • cash payments remain common,
  • road conditions vary between urban and rural areas,
  • some smaller addresses may be difficult to locate,
  • ride-hailing coverage is inconsistent outside larger cities,
  • Spanish is the primary language in most transportation situations.

Because of these factors, many international travelers prefer arranging transportation before arrival.

Airport-to-Airport Transfers in the Dominican Republic

Travelers visiting multiple regions of the country often combine different airports depending on flight schedules and resort locations.

WelcomeTaxi provides private transfers between:

  • STI and POP
  • STI and SDQ
  • STI and PUJ
  • STI and AZS

Airport-to-airport chauffeur transfers can simplify complex travel itineraries and eliminate the need for domestic flights or multiple transportation changes.

Useful Travel Tips for STI Arrivals

When planning transportation from Santiago Airport, travelers should consider confirming the exact accommodation address before arrival, especially when staying in private villas or apartments.

Travelers heading to beach destinations should also allow extra time during weekends and holiday periods due to heavier road traffic.

Larger vehicles may be recommended for groups traveling with surfboards, golf equipment, or large luggage volumes.

Booking airport transportation in advance is particularly advisable during high tourism seasons, when demand for reliable transportation increases significantly across the Dominican Republic.

WelcomeTaxi provides private airport transfers and chauffeur services from Cibao International Airport (STI) for travelers heading to Santiago, Puerto Plata, Cabarete, Sosúa, and destinations throughout the Dominican Republic.
