Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a ride?
We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.
What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?
If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.
If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.
How do I know if my order has been accepted?
After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.
If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
How do I change my booking?
To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.
How can I cancel my booking?
You can cancel your booking in two ways:
- Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
- By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?
If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.
If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.
Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.
How will I find my driver?
For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).
Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.
For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.
How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?
WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.
Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.
I can’t find my driver. What should I do?
If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.
Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.
If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.
Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from Urgench Airport
Urgench International Airport (UGC) is the principal airport serving Urgench, Khiva and the wider Khorezm region of western Uzbekistan. Located only a few kilometres from central Urgench, it is also the main air gateway for international visitors travelling to historic Khiva and its UNESCO-listed old city.
WelcomeTaxi provides pre-booked private airport transfers from Urgench Airport to hotels, residences, railway stations and regional destinations. Passengers can organise their transportation before travelling and continue directly from the terminal with a professional English-speaking driver rather than arranging their onward journey after arrival.
Private transfers are suitable for individual travellers, couples, families, business passengers and larger groups. Chauffeur service and long-distance transfers can also be arranged for journeys beyond Urgench to Khiva, Nukus and destinations farther across western Uzbekistan.
Getting from Urgench Airport to the City
Urgench Airport is located very close to the city, making the transfer into central Urgench relatively short. Travellers can continue by taxi, local transport, train or pre-booked private transfer depending on their destination.
The best choice depends on whether the passenger is staying in Urgench itself or continuing directly to Khiva or another regional destination.
Taxis at Urgench Airport
Taxis are one of the most common ways to travel from UGC. They provide direct transportation to Urgench, Khiva and other nearby destinations and can usually be arranged after arrival.
A pre-booked private transfer offers greater certainty before the flight and can be especially convenient for first-time visitors, families, groups and passengers arriving late in the day.
Airport Train to Khiva
Urgench Airport now has a direct railway connection towards Urgench and Khiva. The new airport rail link opened in 2026 and provides an additional public transport option for travellers heading towards historic Khiva.
The service can be convenient when its timetable matches the flight arrival. Passengers whose hotel is not close to the station may still require a taxi for the final part of the journey.
A private transfer provides direct transportation from the terminal to the exact hotel or guesthouse without changing between different services.
Shared and Local Transport
Shared taxis and local transport are widely used for journeys between Urgench and surrounding towns. These can be economical options for flexible travellers with light luggage.
Visitors carrying several suitcases or staying in a hotel within Khiva's historic area may find a private door-to-door transfer easier, particularly after a long flight.
Why Pre-Book a Private Transfer from UGC?
Pre-booking allows the airport journey to be organised before arrival. The pickup, destination, passenger number and vehicle requirements can all be specified in advance.
This is particularly useful because many passengers landing at Urgench Airport are not staying in Urgench itself. Khiva is one of Uzbekistan's principal cultural destinations and attracts a large share of international visitors using UGC.
Families and groups can reserve a vehicle with sufficient seating and luggage capacity instead of depending on the size of the next available taxi.
For international visitors, travelling with an English-speaking driver can also make communication easier during the airport pickup and onward journey.
Transfers from Urgench Airport to Urgench
Urgench is the administrative centre of the Khorezm region and lies only a few kilometres from the airport. The city contains hotels, offices, restaurants, railway connections and services used by travellers continuing through western Uzbekistan.
A private airport transfer provides direct transportation from UGC to a hotel, apartment, residence or business address in Urgench. Because the airport is close to the city, the journey is normally short.
Transfers from Urgench Airport to Khiva
Khiva is the most important tourism destination served by Urgench Airport. The historic city lies around 30 to 35 kilometres from UGC and is famous for Ichan-Kala, its walled UNESCO World Heritage centre filled with mosques, madrasas, minarets and traditional architecture.
A private transfer provides direct transportation from the airport to a hotel or guesthouse in Khiva without requiring passengers to travel through central Urgench first.
New transport infrastructure has significantly improved the connection between UGC and Khiva. A new direct airport railway opened in 2026, while the new road corridor between Urgench Airport and Khiva has also reduced road journey times.
For passengers arriving with luggage or staying within the historic centre, a private transfer remains particularly convenient because the driver can take passengers to the closest practical access point for their accommodation.
Transfers to Ichan-Kala
Ichan-Kala is the historic walled centre of Khiva and the main destination for most international visitors. Vehicle access is restricted in some parts of the old city, so the final drop-off point depends on the location of the hotel or guesthouse.
A pre-booked driver can take passengers directly from Urgench Airport to the nearest suitable access point, avoiding the need to arrange transportation after reaching Khiva station or another stop.
Chauffeur Service in Khorezm
WelcomeTaxi chauffeur service can be arranged for sightseeing, business travel, events and personalised itineraries throughout the Khorezm region.
The area contains historic cities, archaeological sites and desert landscapes spread beyond the main urban centres. A private vehicle with driver allows passengers to travel according to their own programme rather than relying entirely on fixed public transport schedules.
Hourly or daily chauffeur service can also be useful for travellers combining Khiva with attractions outside the city.
Transfers to the Khorezm Fortresses
Western Uzbekistan contains a number of important archaeological sites and ancient desert fortresses, including Toprak-Kala and Ayaz-Kala. These destinations are often visited as day trips from Khiva or as part of a longer journey towards Karakalpakstan.
Public transport to individual archaeological sites can be limited, making a private vehicle with driver a convenient option for travellers planning a personalised itinerary.
Transfers from Urgench Airport to Nukus
Nukus is the capital of Karakalpakstan and an important cultural destination north-west of Urgench. It is particularly known for the Savitsky Museum and is also used as a starting point for journeys towards Muynak and the former Aral Sea region.
A private long-distance transfer provides direct transportation from UGC to a hotel, residence or other address in Nukus without requiring passengers to change buses or trains.
The road journey is considerably longer than the transfer to Khiva, so travellers should allow several hours depending on road conditions and the exact destination.
Regional and Long-Distance Transfers from Urgench
Private long-distance transfers can be arranged from Urgench Airport to destinations throughout Khorezm, Karakalpakstan and other parts of western Uzbekistan.
This type of service can be particularly useful for travellers following a Silk Road itinerary and combining Khiva with Nukus, desert fortresses or other regional destinations.
For very long journeys such as Bukhara or Tashkent, domestic flights and rail services may often be more efficient. Private road transportation remains useful when direct hotel-to-hotel travel, flexible stops or a personalised itinerary is preferred.
Urgench Airport and Alternative Airports
Urgench International Airport is the clear primary airport for Khiva and the Khorezm region. Nukus International Airport (NCU) is the nearest significant alternative within Uzbekistan and is relevant mainly for travellers visiting Karakalpakstan or combining Nukus with Khiva.
Daşoguz Airport in neighbouring Turkmenistan is geographically closer than Nukus, but it requires an international border crossing and separate entry requirements. It is therefore not a practical alternative airport for most travellers visiting Urgench or Khiva.
Bukhara International Airport is much farther away and serves a separate tourism market, so it should not normally be considered a neighbouring airport for Urgench.
Useful Information for Arriving Passengers
Urgench International Airport uses the IATA code UGC and is located close to central Urgench in the Khorezm region of Uzbekistan. It handles domestic and international passenger services and is the main aviation gateway for Khiva.
Khiva has no commercial airport of its own. Official local information identifies Urgench Airport as its nearest airport, and the airport-to-Khiva connection has been significantly improved by new rail and road infrastructure opened in 2026.
When booking a private airport transfer, passengers should provide the correct flight details, complete hotel or guesthouse name, number of travellers and realistic luggage requirements. For accommodation inside Ichan-Kala, precise property information is particularly useful because vehicle access can be restricted.
With airport transfers, chauffeur service and long-distance private transportation available from Urgench Airport, travellers can arrange their onward journey before arrival and continue directly to Urgench, Khiva, Nukus or destinations farther across western Uzbekistan.
