Pulkovo (LED) is the only international airport serving the city of Saint Petersburg, Russia. It has one terminal located 23 km (14 mi) south of the St. Petersburg center. In 2021, with its more than 18 million served passengers Pulkovo was acknowledged as the 10th busiest airport in Europe.

How to get from Pulkovo airport to St. Petersburg

Public transport

There is no metro and no railway station in Pulkovo airport. Arriving to Pulkovo, you can take bus No. 39 and proceed to the nearest metro station: Moskovskaya. The journey will last about 40 minutes. No doubt, this is the most cheap method, although the less convenient.

Taxi

Unlike in every European airport, in Russian airports you will hardly find a queue of metered cabs waiting for their passengers in front of the terminal doors. Instead, you can use Yandex.Taxi, Uber or any other Uber-like phone app to order your ride. (As for Uber: be aware that your original Uber app will not work in this country, you will need to install the Uber Russia app, since Uber few years ago has sold its brand in Russia to the same Yandex).

Although Yandex.Taxi or Uber app will work in your language, without some knowledge of Russian it will be difficult for you to communicate with driver in order to understand, where exactly he is waiting for you. Almost nobody among taxi drivers here speaks any English word. Moreover, the overwhelming majority of them are young migrants from Central Asian countries and therefore even their Russian is very poor.

Another issue related to ordering cheap rides through Uber-like apps in Russia may be your safety: underpaid drivers are spending 12, 15 or even more hours in their cabs to cover the car rent and to gain some money in their pocket at the end of shift.
