Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a ride?

We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.

What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?

If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.

If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.

How do I know if my order has been accepted?

After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.

If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

How do I change my booking?

To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.

How can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your booking in two ways:

  1. Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
  2. By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?

If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.

If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.

Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.

How will I find my driver?

For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).

Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.

For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.

How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?

WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.

Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.

I can’t find my driver. What should I do?

If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.

Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.

If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.

Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from Porto Airport

Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) is the main international gateway to Porto and northern Portugal. Located in the Maia area, around 11 kilometres from central Porto, the airport serves the wider Porto metropolitan area as well as travellers continuing to destinations throughout northern Portugal and into north-western Spain.

WelcomeTaxi offers pre-booked private airport transfers from Porto Airport to hotels, apartments, business addresses and regional destinations. Instead of organising transport after landing, passengers can arrange a suitable vehicle in advance and travel directly to their destination with an English-speaking driver.

Private transfers are suitable for individual travellers, couples, families, business passengers and larger groups. Chauffeur service and long-distance transfers can also be arranged for journeys beyond Porto, including trips to Braga, Guimarães, the Douro Valley and other destinations across Portugal.

Getting from Porto Airport to the City

Porto Airport has good transport connections with the city and surrounding municipalities. Travellers can choose between the metro, public buses, taxis, rental cars and pre-booked private transfers. The best option depends on arrival time, luggage, group size, final destination and whether convenience or price is the main priority.

Metro from Porto Airport

Metro do Porto connects the airport directly with the urban network via Line E, commonly identified as the Violet Line. It provides a practical and economical way to reach central areas of Porto, with connections available to other metro lines for destinations elsewhere in the metropolitan area.

The metro is particularly convenient for passengers travelling with light luggage and staying near a station. Travellers heading to an address that requires additional connections, however, may find a door-to-door transfer more comfortable, especially after a long flight or when travelling with children or several suitcases.

Public Buses

Bus services also connect Porto Airport with parts of Porto and nearby municipalities. They can be useful for passengers whose accommodation is close to a suitable route, although journey times and convenience depend heavily on the location of the final stop.

For visitors unfamiliar with Porto, transferring between public transport services while carrying luggage can be less convenient than travelling directly from the terminal to the accommodation.

Taxis at Porto Airport

Taxis are available at Porto Airport and provide direct transportation without the need to navigate the public transport system. They are a practical option for spontaneous journeys, particularly for short trips within the metropolitan area.

However, a regular airport taxi is normally arranged only after arrival. During busy travel periods, passengers may prefer to have their transport organised before travelling. Taxi pricing can also depend on the journey, applicable supplements and additional road costs such as tolls.

Rental Cars

Car rental can be a good choice for travellers planning an independent road trip through northern Portugal. It offers flexibility for visiting several destinations over multiple days, particularly in rural areas.

For a simple airport-to-hotel journey, however, renting a vehicle introduces additional formalities, navigation and parking considerations. Porto's historic centre also contains narrow streets and busy urban areas where having a car is not always advantageous. A private transfer avoids the need to collect, drive and park a rental vehicle immediately after a flight.

Why Pre-Book a Private Transfer from OPO?

A pre-booked airport transfer is designed around a confirmed journey rather than finding transportation once the passenger has landed. The pickup, destination and required vehicle are arranged beforehand, making it particularly useful for international visitors, families, groups and travellers with important onward plans.

Door-to-door service is one of the main advantages. There is no need to walk to a metro station with luggage, change between services or determine which local stop is closest to the accommodation. The driver takes passengers directly to the booked destination.

Pre-booking also makes it easier to select a vehicle appropriate for the number of passengers and their luggage. Larger vehicles can be arranged for families and groups instead of relying on the capacity of the next available taxi.

For business passengers, the benefit is predictability. An organised pickup can take travellers directly from Porto Airport to a meeting, hotel, conference venue or another city without spending time arranging local transportation after arrival.

Chauffeur Service in Porto and Northern Portugal

WelcomeTaxi chauffeur service is not limited to straightforward airport transfers. A private car with driver can also be used for business schedules, sightseeing, events and journeys involving several locations.

Porto and neighbouring Vila Nova de Gaia form a major tourism and business destination around the Douro River. A chauffeur can provide private transportation between hotels, offices, restaurants, event venues and attractions without requiring passengers to organise a separate taxi for every journey.

For visitors exploring beyond the city, chauffeur service can be arranged for trips through northern Portugal. This can be particularly convenient when an itinerary combines urban destinations with wineries, historic towns or locations where public transport connections are less direct.

Regional Transfers from Porto Airport

Porto Airport is well placed for onward travel throughout northern Portugal. Private transfers can take arriving passengers directly to their final destination instead of requiring a journey into Porto first to connect with another train or bus.

Popular regional directions include Braga and Guimarães to the north and north-east, coastal destinations around the Porto metropolitan area and towns throughout the Minho region. Transfers are also useful for visitors travelling to the Douro Valley, where hotels, wine estates and rural accommodation may be some distance from railway stations.

Vila Nova de Gaia, on the southern side of the Douro, is another frequent destination. Although it forms part of the Porto metropolitan area, the exact journey from the airport depends on the neighbourhood and accommodation location. A private transfer provides direct delivery to the booked address.

Porto Airport Transfers to the Douro Valley

The Douro Valley is one of northern Portugal's most important leisure destinations. While trains serve parts of the Douro corridor, many wine estates, countryside hotels and villas are not located directly beside railway stations.

A private transfer from Porto Airport is therefore particularly useful for visitors travelling directly to accommodation in the valley. Passengers can leave the airport and continue to their hotel or estate in one vehicle without first travelling into central Porto and reorganising their luggage for another mode of transport.

Chauffeur service may also be suitable for travellers planning a more complex itinerary involving several locations in the region.

Long-Distance Transfers from Porto

Pre-booked long-distance transfers provide an alternative to domestic flights, trains and intercity buses when door-to-door travel is more important than simply reaching another transport terminal.

From Porto Airport, private vehicles can be arranged for longer journeys to destinations elsewhere in Portugal, depending on the itinerary and vehicle requirements. They are especially useful for families, groups, passengers carrying substantial luggage or travellers whose destination is not conveniently connected by public transport.

Long-distance chauffeur journeys may also be suitable for multi-city travel. Instead of coordinating separate tickets and transfers between stations, passengers can travel directly between specified addresses with their luggage remaining in the vehicle.

Travelling between Porto Airport and Hotels

Porto has accommodation throughout the historic centre, Ribeira, Boavista, Bonfim and other districts, while many visitors also stay across the Douro in Vila Nova de Gaia. Journey convenience can vary considerably depending on the exact address.

Public transport works well for many central locations, but the final part of a journey may involve walking over uneven streets or slopes with luggage. Porto's historic urban landscape is attractive to explore on foot, but it can make arrival with heavy suitcases less convenient.

A private airport transfer takes passengers to the booked address, avoiding the need to interpret local transport connections immediately after arrival.

Useful Information for Arriving Passengers

Porto Airport is known both as Porto Airport and Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, and its IATA code is OPO. Passengers should use the flight details and airport code shown on their booking when arranging their transfer.

Travellers continuing by public transport can use the airport's metro and bus connections. Those travelling by train to other parts of Portugal generally need to connect from the airport into Porto's wider transport network before continuing their journey.

For private transfers, it is advisable to provide the complete destination address, correct passenger number and realistic luggage requirements when booking. Groups should select a vehicle with enough capacity for both passengers and baggage rather than choosing solely by the number of seats.

With airport transfers, regional chauffeur service and long-distance private transportation available from Porto Airport, travellers can arrange their onward journey before arriving in Portugal and travel directly to their destination.
