About Debrecen
Debrecen is the second-largest city of Hungary (after Budapest), the centre of the Northern Great Plain region and of Hajdú-Bihar County. In the 18th century Debrecen was the largest Hungarian city. Debrecen was also the capital of Hungary during the revolution in 1848–1849 and by the end of World War II in 1944–1945.
In the 16th century Debrecen became one of the European centres of Reformation. That is why Debrecen popular nicknames are Calvinist Rome or Geneva of Hungary.
Debrecen is also one one of the most important Hungarian cultural centres. It is home of the University of Debrecen.
How to get from Debrecen to Budapest Airport
The distance between Debrecen and Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) is 236 km (147 mi) via the M3 highway.
Train
Hungarian Railways (MÁV) operates a train from Debrecen to Ferihegy hourly. Tickets cost $10 - $13 and the journey takes 2h 7m. From Ferihegy station you need to take a shuttle bus to Budapest Airport. Bus departs every 15 minutes, travel time is 10 minutes, one-way ticket costs 3 euro.
Private transfer
The most convenient and quick option to get from Debrecen to Budapest Airport is of course a private transfer.
