Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a ride?

We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.

What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?

If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.

If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.

How do I know if my order has been accepted?

After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.

If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

How do I change my booking?

To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.

How can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your booking in two ways:

  1. Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
  2. By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?

If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.

If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.

Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.

How will I find my driver?

For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).

Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.

For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.

How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?

WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.

Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.

I can’t find my driver. What should I do?

If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.

Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.

If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.

Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service in Mombasa

Mombasa is Kenya's principal coastal city and one of East Africa's most important tourism, commercial and maritime centres. Located on the Indian Ocean, the city combines Swahili heritage, historic neighbourhoods, a major port and easy access to some of Kenya's best-known beach resorts.

WelcomeTaxi provides pre-booked private transfers and chauffeur service in Mombasa for individual travellers, couples, families, business visitors and groups. Transportation can be arranged between the airport, hotels, resorts, private addresses, railway facilities, the port and destinations elsewhere along the Kenyan coast. Booking in advance is particularly useful when arriving on a flight, travelling with substantial luggage or continuing directly to a beach resort.

Mombasa Airport Transfers

Moi International Airport (MBA) is the main commercial airport serving Mombasa and Kenya's southern and central coastal region. It handles domestic and international flights and is the principal aviation gateway for many travellers visiting Mombasa and nearby Indian Ocean resorts.

A private transfer from Moi International Airport provides direct transportation to hotels and addresses throughout Mombasa, including the city centre and resort areas north of the island. Passengers can arrange their vehicle, luggage capacity and destination before arrival instead of organising transportation after leaving the terminal.

Cars, vans and larger vehicles can be booked according to passenger numbers and baggage requirements, making private airport transfers particularly convenient for families and groups.

Transfers to Nyali, Bamburi and Shanzu

North of central Mombasa lies a long coastal resort area including Nyali, Bamburi and Shanzu. These destinations are home to numerous beachfront hotels, holiday apartments, restaurants and leisure facilities.

Private transfers can connect Moi International Airport directly with accommodation along the North Coast. Door-to-door transportation is especially convenient because hotels and resorts are distributed over a considerable distance rather than concentrated around a single transport terminal.

Transfers can also be arranged between central Mombasa and North Coast resorts during a stay.

Getting Around Mombasa

Mombasa has buses, matatus, taxis, tuk-tuks and other local transportation options. These are useful for many everyday journeys, while private transportation is more convenient when travellers have luggage, require a particular vehicle size or are following a fixed itinerary.

Mombasa's geography also affects journey planning. The historic city occupies Mombasa Island, while many major beach resorts are located on the mainland north and south of the island.

A pre-booked vehicle can simplify journeys between hotels, beaches, business locations, the airport and transport terminals without arranging a separate ride after every stop.

Chauffeur Service in Mombasa

Hourly chauffeur service is suitable for travellers who want a vehicle available for several journeys during the same period. The driver and vehicle can remain available according to the booked schedule for sightseeing, restaurants, shopping, meetings or other appointments.

Leisure travellers may use chauffeur service to combine historic Mombasa with beaches and other attractions during the same day. Business visitors can arrange transportation between hotels, offices, meetings and port-related locations.

For families, delegations and groups, vans and larger vehicles can keep passengers together throughout the itinerary.

Old Town and Fort Jesus Transfers

Mombasa's Old Town is one of the city's most distinctive historic areas, with narrow streets, Swahili architecture and centuries of Indian Ocean trading heritage. Nearby Fort Jesus is one of Mombasa's best-known landmarks.

Private transportation can connect hotels and resorts with the historic centre for sightseeing visits. Travellers staying on the North Coast can also arrange a vehicle for a combined visit to central Mombasa, Fort Jesus and other city attractions.

Hourly chauffeur service can be particularly convenient when several sightseeing stops are planned within the same day.

Mombasa Port and Cruise Transfers

Mombasa is home to one of East Africa's major seaports and also receives passenger and cruise traffic. Travellers arriving or departing by ship may require transportation between the port, airport and coastal hotels.

Private transfers can be arranged according to the relevant passenger terminal or meeting point. This can be particularly useful for cruise passengers carrying luggage or continuing directly to an airport or beach resort.

When arranging a port pickup, passengers should provide their vessel information, expected arrival time and onward destination.

Private Transfers from Mombasa to Diani Beach

Diani Beach is one of Kenya's most famous coastal resort destinations and lies south of Mombasa. Its long white-sand beach, resorts, villas and water-based activities make it a major destination for international visitors.

A private transfer provides direct road transportation from Moi International Airport or a Mombasa hotel to accommodation in the Diani area. This can be especially convenient for families and groups travelling with holiday luggage.

Travellers flying directly to Ukunda Airport may not need to travel through Mombasa, but MBA remains an important international gateway for visitors combining Mombasa and the South Coast.

Transfers from Mombasa to Kilifi

Kilifi lies north of Mombasa and is an important destination along Kenya's North Coast. The area is known for Kilifi Creek, beaches, resorts and a relaxed coastal atmosphere.

Private transfers can connect Moi International Airport or Mombasa hotels directly with accommodation in Kilifi. Kenya's tourism authority identifies Mombasa as the gateway to the North Coast, which includes destinations such as Nyali, Shanzu, Kikambala and Kilifi.

Door-to-door transportation is particularly useful when accommodation is outside a major town centre or travellers are carrying substantial luggage.

Transfers to Watamu and Malindi

Watamu and Malindi are two of the best-known destinations farther north along Kenya's Indian Ocean coast. Watamu is known for beaches, marine conservation and resort accommodation, while Malindi is a historic coastal town with its own airport and established tourism infrastructure.

A private transfer from Mombasa provides direct transportation to hotels and resorts in these destinations without requiring travellers to change buses or arrange local transportation after arrival.

For travellers following a wider coastal itinerary, transfers can also be arranged between several resort areas according to route and operational availability.

Railway Station Transfers

Mombasa is connected with Nairobi by Kenya's Standard Gauge Railway, making rail an important option for travellers combining the coast with the capital or other parts of the country.

Private transfers can connect railway facilities with Moi International Airport, hotels and beach resorts. This is especially convenient for passengers carrying luggage or making an onward connection after arriving by train.

Travellers should provide their train details and exact pickup point when arranging transportation.

Safari Connections from Mombasa

Mombasa is also a common starting point for travellers combining a coastal holiday with a safari. Road journeys can connect the coast with wildlife destinations and lodges in southeastern Kenya according to itinerary and operational availability.

For complex journeys involving several days or multiple stops, a dedicated multi-day transportation arrangement may be more appropriate than a standard point-to-point transfer.

Travellers should provide the exact lodge, park entrance or meeting location when requesting transportation, as safari destinations can cover large geographic areas.

Regional and Long-Distance Transfers from Mombasa

Mombasa is the principal gateway to Kenya's North Coast and an important starting point for journeys along the South Coast. WelcomeTaxi can arrange long-distance transfers to regional destinations according to route and operational availability.

Passengers can be collected from Moi International Airport, a hotel, resort, railway facility or port and taken directly to the final destination in the same vehicle. This can be particularly convenient for families and groups who prefer not to combine several transport services.

For itineraries involving several destinations, hourly, multi-stop or multi-day chauffeur arrangements may provide greater flexibility than a standard one-way transfer.

Why Pre-Book Instead of Taking a Regular Taxi?

Taxis and other local transport options are widely available in Mombasa and work well for many short journeys. A pre-booked private transfer is more suitable when transportation begins at the airport or port, requires a specific vehicle size or continues to a resort outside the city.

Airport passengers can arrange their pickup and destination before travelling, while families and groups can reserve sufficient passenger and luggage capacity. For longer coastal journeys, the complete route can be organised in advance rather than arranged after arrival.

International visitors may also prefer transportation with an English-speaking driver, particularly for airport pickups, resort transfers and longer journeys along the Kenyan coast.

Useful Travel Information for Mombasa

Moi International Airport uses the IATA code MBA and is Mombasa's main commercial aviation gateway. Mombasa itself is an island city, while important resort areas such as Nyali, Bamburi and Shanzu lie on the North Coast and Diani Beach lies to the south.

Farther north, Kilifi, Watamu and Malindi form part of a well-established coastal tourism corridor. Kenya's official tourism information identifies Mombasa as the gateway to the North Coast and notes that private vehicle transfers are commonly used to reach these beach destinations.

When booking transportation, provide accurate flight, train or vessel information, passenger numbers, luggage requirements and the complete hotel or resort address so that an appropriate vehicle can be arranged.
