Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a ride?

We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.

What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?

If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.

If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.

How do I know if my order has been accepted?

After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.

If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

How do I change my booking?

To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.

How can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your booking in two ways:

  1. Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
  2. By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?

If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.

If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.

Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.

How will I find my driver?

For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).

Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.

For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.

How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?

WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.

Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.

I can’t find my driver. What should I do?

If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.

Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.

If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.

Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Private Transportation in Karakol and Eastern Issyk-Kul

Karakol is one of Kyrgyzstan’s most important tourism centers and the principal base for exploring the eastern Issyk-Kul region and the mountains of the Terskey Ala-Too. Travelers come to the city for trekking, skiing, horse riding, mountain scenery, hot springs and excursions into some of the country’s best-known alpine valleys.

WelcomeTaxi provides pre-booked private transfers and chauffeur service in Karakol for airport arrivals, hotel transportation, mountain trips and long-distance journeys. Transfers can be arranged between the city, regional airports, guesthouses, resorts and accessible trailheads throughout the surrounding area.

Karakol Airport Transfers

Karakol Airport (IKG) serves the city directly and is the most convenient airport when suitable flights are available. Because the airport is located close to Karakol, a pre-booked transfer provides a simple connection between the terminal and hotels, guesthouses or private addresses in the city.

Current domestic services can make IKG particularly useful for travelers connecting from other parts of Kyrgyzstan. Flight schedules can be limited or seasonal, so passengers should always check their confirmed itinerary before arranging transportation.

Return transfers from Karakol to the airport can also be reserved in advance according to the passenger’s departure time and luggage requirements.

Issyk-Kul Airport to Karakol

Issyk-Kul International Airport (IKU), located near Tamchy on the northern side of the lake, is another important gateway to the region. It is much farther from Karakol than the city’s own airport, but it can be useful when international or seasonal flights are available.

A private transfer from Issyk-Kul Airport to Karakol provides direct transportation around the lake without the need to coordinate several local connections. This route can also serve hotels and resorts in Cholpon-Ata and other communities along the northern shore when included in a wider itinerary.

Passengers traveling from Karakol to IKU should allow sufficient time for the long road journey and possible seasonal traffic around Issyk-Kul.

Bishkek to Karakol Private Transfers

Bishkek is one of the principal international arrival points for travelers continuing to Karakol. Manas International Airport now uses the IATA code BSZ and provides much broader international connectivity than the regional airports around Issyk-Kul.

A private transfer from Bishkek or Manas International Airport to Karakol is a long-distance journey across northern Kyrgyzstan and around Issyk-Kul. For travelers carrying luggage, ski equipment or trekking gear, direct door-to-door transportation can be more convenient than arranging separate airport, bus and local taxi connections.

Long-distance transfers can also be booked in the opposite direction from Karakol to Bishkek or BSZ for onward flights and accommodation.

Transfers to Jeti-Oguz

Jeti-Oguz is one of the best-known natural attractions near Karakol. The valley is famous for its red sandstone formations, including the Seven Bulls cliffs, and it is also an important starting point for trekking routes deeper into the Terskey Ala-Too.

Private transfers can be arranged from Karakol to Jeti-Oguz for day trips, accommodation stays or access to trekking areas. Because different guesthouses and trailheads can be located beyond the main settlement, passengers should provide the most precise accessible destination possible when booking.

Altyn Arashan and Ak-Suu Transfers

Altyn Arashan is one of the region’s most famous mountain valleys, known for alpine scenery and hot springs. Access to the upper valley requires rough mountain roads and may not be suitable for ordinary road vehicles, so a standard private transfer may end at an accessible point such as Ak-Suu or another agreed meeting location.

Travelers should confirm the exact accessible pickup or drop-off point before booking. Specialized local off-road transportation may be required for the final mountain section.

Ak-Suu itself is an important gateway for trekking and outdoor trips and can be reached by pre-booked vehicle from Karakol.

Transfers for Ala-Kul Treks

Karakol is a principal base for the famous Ala-Kul trekking routes. The high-altitude lake and surrounding valleys attract hikers from around the world during the summer trekking season.

Private transportation can be arranged to accessible starting and finishing points connected with Ala-Kul itineraries, including areas around Karakol Gorge, Jeti-Oguz and Ak-Suu. The exact transfer point depends on the chosen trek and current road access.

Because many mountain routes involve unpaved roads, river conditions and seasonal limitations, travelers should not assume that a standard transfer vehicle can reach every trailhead. The accessible endpoint should be confirmed before departure.

Karakol Ski Transfers

Karakol is also a major winter destination. The surrounding mountains attract skiers and snowboarders during the colder months, making pre-booked transfers useful for passengers traveling with bulky winter equipment.

Transportation can be arranged between Karakol accommodation and accessible ski areas according to road and weather conditions. Travelers carrying skis, snowboards or large bags should select a vehicle with sufficient luggage capacity and include equipment details when booking.

Chauffeur Service in Karakol

Chauffeur service is suitable for travelers who need a vehicle and driver for several hours rather than a single point-to-point transfer. This can be useful for sightseeing around eastern Issyk-Kul, visiting several villages, traveling between hotels or combining scenic locations during the same day.

English-speaking drivers are available on selected vehicles and can be particularly useful for international travelers following multi-stop itineraries. Routes and service duration should be planned in advance so that sufficient time is reserved.

Transfers Around Issyk-Kul

Karakol is well positioned for longer journeys around Lake Issyk-Kul. Private transfers can be arranged to Cholpon-Ata, Bosteri, Tamchy and other destinations along the northern shore, as well as locations on the southern side of the lake.

These journeys can be useful for travelers combining several resorts or guesthouses during one trip. Door-to-door transportation avoids the need to arrange multiple local taxis or transport connections with luggage.

Karakol to Cholpon-Ata

Cholpon-Ata is one of the main resort towns on Issyk-Kul and a common onward destination from Karakol. A private transfer allows passengers to travel directly between hotels in the two destinations while continuing around the lake.

This route is also relevant for passengers using Issyk-Kul International Airport near Tamchy, since Cholpon-Ata lies along the northern lakeside corridor between the airport and eastern Issyk-Kul.

Mountain and Outdoor Travel

Karakol is widely used as a base for outdoor activities in the Tian Shan. In addition to Ala-Kul and Altyn Arashan, visitors travel to Karakol Gorge, Jeti-Oguz and numerous smaller valleys for trekking, horse riding and photography.

Private road transportation can connect travelers with accessible lodges, villages and trail access points. However, mountain access changes with season, weather and road conditions. A passenger planning a remote transfer should provide the exact destination so that vehicle suitability can be checked in advance.

Choosing the Right Vehicle

Vehicle selection is especially important in Karakol because many travelers carry trekking, skiing or camping equipment. A standard sedan may be suitable for passengers with ordinary luggage, while a larger vehicle may be more practical for groups or travelers carrying bulky gear.

For routes involving rough roads, the availability of an appropriate vehicle should be confirmed before booking. A larger passenger vehicle is not automatically an off-road vehicle, so passengers should describe any remote destination accurately.

Private Transfer or Shared Transportation?

Public buses, marshrutkas and shared taxis are widely used for travel in Kyrgyzstan and can be economical for flexible travelers. A private transfer is more suitable when passengers need direct transportation, have significant luggage, are traveling as a family or group, or need to arrive according to a fixed schedule.

Private transportation is particularly useful for airport journeys, mountain accommodation, early departures and long-distance routes where several separate connections would otherwise be required.

Planning Your Karakol Transfer

When arranging a transfer, provide the complete pickup and destination information as well as passenger numbers and luggage details. For airport transfers, include accurate flight information. For hiking, skiing or mountain accommodation, provide the exact accessible trailhead, lodge or meeting point whenever possible.

Travel times can vary according to road conditions, weather and the season. Winter snow, mountain roads and traffic around Issyk-Kul can all affect journey duration, so sufficient time should be allowed for airport departures and other fixed connections.

Book a Private Transfer in Karakol

WelcomeTaxi offers pre-booked private transfers and chauffeur service in Karakol for airport arrivals, hotel transportation, mountain adventures and long-distance travel across Issyk-Kul and northern Kyrgyzstan.

Whether arriving through Karakol Airport, Issyk-Kul International Airport or Bishkek, travelers can arrange direct transportation to Karakol and onward to accessible destinations such as Jeti-Oguz, Ak-Suu, Cholpon-Ata and other locations throughout the region.
