Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a ride?
We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.
What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?
If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.
If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.
How do I know if my order has been accepted?
After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.
If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
How do I change my booking?
To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.
How can I cancel my booking?
You can cancel your booking in two ways:
- Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
- By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?
If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.
If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.
Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.
How will I find my driver?
For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).
Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.
For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.
How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?
WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.
Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.
I can’t find my driver. What should I do?
If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.
Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.
If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.
Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from Hong Kong International Airport
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), commonly known as HKIA, is the principal international airport serving Hong Kong. Located on Chek Lap Kok Island beside Lantau Island, it provides access to Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and destinations throughout the Greater Bay Area.
The airport handles international, regional and long-haul flights and is an important transport hub for passengers travelling between Hong Kong, mainland China and Macao. Its location outside the central urban districts means that choosing the right onward transport is an important part of planning your arrival.
WelcomeTaxi offers pre-booked private airport transfers from HKG to hotels, residences, offices, cruise terminals and other destinations. A private transfer provides a direct journey without the need to navigate railway stations, bus routes or taxi queues after a long flight.
Getting from Hong Kong Airport to the City
Passengers arriving at Hong Kong International Airport can choose between the Airport Express, public buses, regular taxis, private transfers and several cross-boundary transport services. The most suitable option depends on the destination, arrival time, group size and amount of luggage.
Airport Express
The Airport Express is one of the fastest public transport options between the airport and the central districts. It connects HKG with stations including Tsing Yi, Kowloon and Hong Kong Station. It is particularly convenient for passengers travelling close to one of these stations.
However, most hotels and residential addresses are not located directly beside an Airport Express station. Passengers may still need to continue by MTR, local taxi or on foot. This additional stage can be inconvenient when travelling with children, several suitcases or bulky equipment.
Public Airport Buses
Airport bus routes connect HKG with many parts of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and Lantau Island. They are usually the most economical option and can be practical for passengers familiar with the city.
Bus journeys generally take longer than direct car transport because of scheduled stops and traffic conditions. Travellers must also identify the correct route and nearest stop, which may be difficult after a late arrival or when carrying substantial luggage. Overnight routes operate on selected corridors, but services and frequencies vary.
Regular Taxis
Hong Kong has different taxi service areas. Urban taxis generally serve Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, while New Territories and Lantau taxis operate primarily within their designated districts. Airport staff and signs at the taxi ranks help passengers join the appropriate queue.
A regular taxi can be suitable for a straightforward city journey, but availability may vary during peak arrival periods, bad weather and major public events. Vehicle luggage capacity can also be limited, especially for groups. Travellers requiring a larger vehicle may need to split the party between several taxis.
Private Airport Transfers
A pre-booked airport transfer offers door-to-door transport from the terminal to the exact destination. The vehicle is selected in advance according to the number of passengers and suitcases, making it easier to arrange suitable transport for families, business travellers and larger groups.
Private transfers are available to Central, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, North Point, Repulse Bay, Stanley, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Jordan, West Kowloon, Sha Tin, Sai Kung, Discovery Bay and other districts. Transfers can also be arranged to the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, Ocean Terminal and local ferry piers.
Transfers to Hong Kong Island
Hong Kong Island contains many of the city’s main financial, commercial and tourist districts. Central and Admiralty are popular with business travellers, while Wan Chai and Causeway Bay offer extensive hotel, shopping and exhibition facilities.
A private transfer from HKG to Hong Kong Island avoids changes between the Airport Express and local transport. The driver takes passengers directly to the entrance of their hotel, apartment or office. This is particularly useful for properties on steep streets, in residential neighbourhoods or away from major railway stations.
Transfers are also available to southern Hong Kong Island, including Aberdeen, Ocean Park, Repulse Bay and Stanley. These journeys are less convenient by rail and may require several changes when using public transport.
Transfers to Kowloon and the New Territories
Kowloon is one of the most popular arrival areas for international visitors. Major destinations include Tsim Sha Tsui, Jordan, Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok, Hung Hom and the West Kowloon district. Direct transport is useful because hotels can be spread across busy streets and densely built neighbourhoods.
WelcomeTaxi can also arrange transfers to destinations throughout the New Territories, including Sha Tin, Tsuen Wan, Tseung Kwan O, Sai Kung, Tai Po, Yuen Long and areas near the mainland border. These journeys may involve different railway lines or long bus routes, while a private vehicle provides one continuous trip.
Hong Kong Chauffeur Service
A chauffeur service is suitable for passengers who require more than a simple airport-to-hotel journey. A vehicle with a professional driver can be arranged for business meetings, corporate events, exhibitions, shopping appointments, sightseeing or transport between several locations.
Hourly chauffeur hire allows the itinerary to be adapted to the passenger’s schedule. It can be used for meetings in Central and Kowloon, visits to industrial or commercial areas in the New Territories, hotel inspections, event transport or a customised tour of Hong Kong.
Chauffeur service is also practical for executives who need reliable transport between the airport, hotel and business venue. The booking can include an appropriately sized sedan, premium vehicle, van or minibus depending on the required capacity.
Long-Distance and Regional Transfers
Hong Kong International Airport is positioned within the Greater Bay Area, a closely connected region that includes Hong Kong, Macao, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Guangzhou and other cities in Guangdong Province. Long-distance transfers can be arranged for destinations beyond central Hong Kong where the route, vehicle and border requirements permit.
Popular regional journeys may include transport towards the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge, cross-boundary checkpoints and connections for Shenzhen, Zhuhai or Macao. Cross-border travel is subject to immigration rules, vehicle permits, documentation requirements and the operating procedures of the selected checkpoint.
Passengers planning a cross-boundary journey should provide complete passport, nationality, destination and luggage information in advance. Depending on the route, travellers may need to leave the vehicle for immigration or customs inspections. Travel times can vary significantly according to traffic and border conditions.
Hong Kong Airport also has specialised ferry and coach connections for eligible transfer passengers travelling between the airport and selected Greater Bay Area ports. These services have specific ticketing, baggage and immigration procedures and are not suitable for every itinerary. A private road transfer is often easier when the passenger needs direct transport to a hotel, residence or business address rather than another transport terminal.
Why Pre-Book Instead of Taking a Taxi?
A regular taxi does not always provide certainty about vehicle size, luggage space or waiting time. During busy periods, passengers may need to queue and then confirm the destination with the driver. Larger groups may require two or more vehicles.
With a pre-booked transfer, the journey is arranged before arrival. The selected vehicle can match the passenger and luggage requirements, while the destination and schedule are recorded in advance. This reduces uncertainty and makes the arrival process easier, especially for first-time visitors.
Private airport transfers are particularly helpful for families with children, elderly passengers, travellers with reduced mobility, groups carrying multiple suitcases and passengers arriving on overnight flights. They are also useful for destinations that are difficult to reach directly by public transport.
English-Speaking Drivers and Meet-and-Greet Service
WelcomeTaxi can arrange airport transfers with professional English-speaking drivers. This makes it easier to confirm the destination, discuss the journey and handle practical questions after arrival.
Where included in the selected service, the driver meets the passenger in the designated arrivals area and assists with reaching the vehicle. The exact meeting procedure depends on the terminal and current airport access arrangements. Passengers should keep their telephone switched on after landing and provide an accurate flight number when booking.
Choosing the Correct Vehicle
Vehicle selection should be based on both passenger capacity and luggage. A sedan may be suitable for one to three passengers with a limited number of standard suitcases. Families, groups and travellers with large bags may need a van or minibus.
Hong Kong journeys often include hotel entrances, underground car parks and roads with access or height restrictions. Accurate luggage details help the transport provider allocate a practical vehicle and avoid last-minute changes.
For corporate travel, premium sedans and executive vans may be requested. Larger vehicles can be arranged for tour groups, conference delegates, cruise passengers and airport transfers involving several travellers arriving together.
Useful Information for HKG Arrivals
Passengers should check which terminal is used by their airline, as Hong Kong International Airport operates passenger facilities across Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal arrangements can change, so current flight and airline information should be checked before departure.
Hong Kong traffic conditions vary considerably. Journeys during weekday commuting periods, major exhibitions, public holidays or severe weather can take longer than usual. Extra time should be allowed for departures, particularly when travelling from Hong Kong Island or remote parts of the New Territories.
For an airport pickup, provide the flight number rather than only the scheduled arrival time. The booking should also include the lead passenger’s mobile number, complete destination address, passenger count and number of suitcases.
Hong Kong uses left-hand traffic. Road journeys may include bridges, tunnels and toll roads depending on the destination. A pre-arranged transfer allows the route and operational details to be planned before the passenger arrives.
