Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a ride?

We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.

What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?

If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.

If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.

How do I know if my order has been accepted?

After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.

If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

How do I change my booking?

To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.

How can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your booking in two ways:

  1. Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
  2. By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?

If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.

If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.

Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.

How will I find my driver?

For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).

Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.

For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.

How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?

WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.

Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.

I can’t find my driver. What should I do?

If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.

Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.

If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.

Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from Keflavik International Airport

Keflavik International Airport (KEF) is the main international gateway to Iceland and the airport used by most travellers arriving in the country from Europe, North America, and other international destinations. Although it is often associated with Reykjavik, the airport is located on the Reykjanes Peninsula, outside the capital area. For this reason, transport from Keflavik Airport to Reykjavik is not a short city taxi ride, but a planned airport transfer of around 50 kilometres.

For many visitors, the journey from KEF is the first practical step of their Iceland trip. Whether you are travelling to a hotel in Reykjavik, a private address, the cruise port, the Blue Lagoon, or a long-distance destination, pre-booking your airport transfer helps make the arrival smoother and more predictable. WelcomeTaxi offers private airport transfers, chauffeur service, and long-distance transfers from Keflavik Airport with vehicles arranged in advance according to your route, group size, luggage, and travel plans.

Transportation Options from Keflavik Airport to Reykjavik

There are several ways to travel from Keflavik Airport to Reykjavik. Airport coaches and scheduled bus transfers operate between the airport and Reykjavik, often serving a main bus terminal with onward hotel connections. These services can be suitable for budget-conscious travellers, solo passengers, or visitors with flexible schedules.

Taxis are also available at Keflavik Airport and can provide direct transportation to Reykjavik or other destinations. However, for longer airport routes, families, business travellers, and passengers with multiple suitcases, relying on a taxi on arrival may be less predictable than arranging a private transfer in advance.

Car rental is another common option in Iceland, especially for travellers planning to explore the country independently. However, driving in Iceland requires attention to weather, road conditions, daylight hours, and seasonal restrictions. For travellers who do not want to drive immediately after a flight, a private airport transfer is often the more comfortable option.

There is also a public bus connection between Keflavik Airport and Reykjavik. It may be useful for some travellers, but it is less convenient for late arrivals, large luggage, groups, families with children, or passengers continuing to hotels and addresses outside central Reykjavik.

Private Transfers from Keflavik Airport to Reykjavik

A private transfer from Keflavik Airport to Reykjavik provides direct door-to-door transportation without waiting for other passengers or following a shared bus schedule. Your pickup, destination, passenger count, and luggage requirements are confirmed before the trip, allowing the vehicle to be arranged for your actual needs.

This is especially useful in Iceland because many travellers arrive with winter clothing, outdoor gear, camera equipment, ski bags, or several suitcases. A pre-booked vehicle helps avoid uncertainty about luggage space and passenger capacity after landing.

Private airport transfers can be arranged from KEF to Reykjavik city centre, hotels, apartments, conference venues, business addresses, the old harbour area, cruise terminals, and nearby towns. Transfers from Reykjavik to Keflavik Airport are also available for departures, with pickup time planned according to your flight and the recommended airport arrival time.

Transfers from Keflavik Airport to the Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is one of the most popular stops near Keflavik Airport, and many travellers visit it either on arrival in Iceland or before departure. A private transfer can be arranged from KEF to the Blue Lagoon, from the Blue Lagoon to Reykjavik, or as part of a multi-stop itinerary.

This is more flexible than a standard point-to-point ride, especially if you need waiting time, luggage storage in the vehicle, or a transfer continuing to Reykjavik after the visit. For travellers with limited time in Iceland, pre-arranged private transport makes it easier to combine the airport, the Blue Lagoon, and Reykjavik in one smooth plan.

Chauffeur Service from Keflavik Airport

Chauffeur service from Keflavik Airport is suitable for business travellers, VIP guests, corporate delegations, private clients, and visitors who need more than a simple airport-to-hotel transfer. A chauffeur-driven vehicle can be arranged for meetings, hotel visits, event transportation, private sightseeing, or several stops in the Reykjavik area.

Hourly chauffeur service is also practical when the itinerary is flexible. Instead of booking separate taxis for each part of the day, travellers can arrange one vehicle and driver for a defined period. This can be useful for business meetings, site visits, cruise passengers, or travellers who want to move comfortably between Reykjavik, nearby attractions, and the airport.

For international passengers, English-speaking drivers are an important part of the service experience. Where available, WelcomeTaxi can help arrange drivers who can communicate in English and assist with the practical details of the journey.

Long-Distance Transfers from Keflavik Airport

Keflavik Airport is often the starting point for travel far beyond Reykjavik. Private long-distance transfers can be arranged to destinations such as Selfoss, Hella, Hvolsvöllur, Vik, Borgarnes, Snæfellsnes Peninsula, and other parts of Iceland, depending on route, season, and vehicle availability.

Long-distance transfers in Iceland require careful planning. Distances may be significant, weather can change quickly, and some routes pass through areas where regular taxi availability is limited. A pre-booked transfer gives travellers a confirmed plan, a suitable vehicle, and a known price before the trip begins.

For families, groups, and travellers carrying luggage, this can be much more comfortable than trying to arrange onward transportation after arrival. For business clients, it is also a reliable way to reach remote hotels, event venues, industrial sites, or meeting locations outside the capital region.

Connection Between Keflavik Airport and Reykjavik Airport

Travellers should pay close attention to Iceland’s airport codes. Keflavik International Airport (KEF) is the main international airport, while Reykjavik Airport (RKV) is located much closer to the city centre and is mainly used for domestic flights within Iceland.

If your itinerary includes an international arrival at KEF and a domestic flight from RKV, you will need a ground transfer between the two airports. This connection should be planned with enough time for passport control, baggage collection, road travel, check-in, and possible weather-related delays. A private airport-to-airport transfer can be useful when the connection is time-sensitive or when travelling with luggage.

Why Pre-Book a Transfer Instead of Taking a Regular Taxi?

A regular taxi can be convenient for short urban rides, but Keflavik Airport transfers are different. The airport is outside Reykjavik, and many journeys from KEF are long enough to make planning important. With a pre-booked transfer, the vehicle category, pickup details, destination, luggage, child seats, and itinerary can be confirmed before arrival.

Pre-booking is also helpful when travelling during peak tourism periods, late at night, early in the morning, or in winter conditions. Instead of comparing transport options after landing, passengers can continue directly from the airport to their destination with fewer uncertainties.

For airport departures, a pre-booked transfer helps reduce the risk of leaving too late. Pickup time can be planned based on the distance to KEF, flight departure time, check-in requirements, and local road conditions.

Useful Travel Information for Keflavik Airport

When booking a transfer from Keflavik Airport, it is important to provide the correct flight number, arrival time, destination address, passenger count, luggage amount, and any special requirements. If your route includes the Blue Lagoon, extra stops, a remote hotel, or a long-distance destination, it is better to request a tailored private transfer rather than assume a standard city fare applies.

Iceland is a destination where transport planning matters. Weather, wind, snow, daylight, and road conditions can affect travel times, especially outside Reykjavik. A pre-booked airport transfer or chauffeur service gives visitors a more reliable and comfortable way to begin or end their journey.

WelcomeTaxi provides international private transfer and chauffeur service solutions from Keflavik International Airport to Reykjavik and destinations across Iceland. Whether you need a direct airport transfer, a vehicle for several hours, a connection to Reykjavik Airport, or a long-distance ride into the Icelandic countryside, private transport from KEF helps make the journey easier from the moment you arrive.
