Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a ride?
We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.
What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?
If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.
If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.
How do I know if my order has been accepted?
After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.
If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
How do I change my booking?
To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.
Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.
How can I cancel my booking?
You can cancel your booking in two ways:
- Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
- By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?
If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.
If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.
Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.
How will I find my driver?
For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).
Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.
For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.
How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?
WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.
Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.
I can’t find my driver. What should I do?
If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.
Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.
If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.
Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from Reykjavik Airport
Reykjavik Airport (RKV), often called Reykjavik City Airport or Reykjavik Domestic Airport, is the airport located close to central Reykjavik. Unlike Keflavik International Airport (KEF), which handles most international flights to and from Iceland, Reykjavik Airport is mainly used for domestic flights within Iceland and selected regional services. For many travellers, RKV is the connecting point between the capital and destinations such as Akureyri, Egilsstaðir, Ísafjörður, and other parts of the country.
Because the airport is close to the city centre, transfers from Reykjavik Airport to hotels, apartments, offices, hospitals, conference venues, and the harbour area are usually much shorter than transfers from Keflavik Airport. However, pre-booked airport transfers can still be very useful, especially for travellers with luggage, families, business guests, elderly passengers, or passengers connecting between RKV and KEF.
WelcomeTaxi offers private airport transfers, chauffeur service, and long-distance transfers from Reykjavik City Airport. Whether you need a short ride into the city, a transfer to Keflavik International Airport, a chauffeur-driven vehicle for meetings, or onward travel to another destination in Iceland, booking in advance gives you a clearer and more comfortable travel plan.
Reykjavik Airport and Keflavik Airport: Do Not Confuse RKV and KEF
One of the most important travel details in Iceland is the difference between Reykjavik Airport (RKV) and Keflavik International Airport (KEF). RKV is the city airport in Reykjavik and is mainly used for domestic flights. KEF is Iceland’s main international airport and is located on the Reykjanes Peninsula, about 50 kilometres from Reykjavik.
This distinction matters when booking flights, transfers, and hotel pickup times. A traveller arriving internationally at Keflavik Airport and continuing on a domestic flight from Reykjavik Airport must travel between two different airports. The journey requires enough time for passport control, baggage collection, road transfer, check-in, and possible weather or traffic delays.
A private transfer between KEF and RKV is a practical option when the connection is important or when travelling with luggage. It provides direct airport-to-airport transportation without relying on multiple bus connections or arranging a taxi at the last moment.
Transportation Options from Reykjavik Airport to the City
Reykjavik Airport is located very close to the city, so travellers have several transportation options. Taxis can be used for short rides into central Reykjavik, and local buses serve parts of the area around the airport. Walking may even be possible for some light-travelling passengers staying nearby, depending on weather, luggage, and exact destination.
However, Reykjavik’s weather can make even a short transfer feel less convenient. Wind, rain, snow, ice, and limited daylight in winter can make it uncomfortable to walk with suitcases. Public transport may also require waiting, route changes, or a walk from the nearest stop to the final address.
A private airport transfer from RKV gives travellers a direct door-to-door option. The vehicle is arranged for the passenger count, luggage, pickup time, and destination. This is particularly useful for business travellers, families, passengers arriving from remote domestic airports, or visitors connecting to international flights from KEF.
Private Transfers from Reykjavik Airport to Hotels and the City Centre
Private transfers from Reykjavik Airport to the city centre are convenient for travellers who want a simple arrival without searching for transport after landing. Although the airport is close to central Reykjavik, a pre-booked ride can still save time and avoid uncertainty, especially during busy periods or bad weather.
Transfers can be arranged to hotels, serviced apartments, private addresses, offices, event venues, hospitals, university buildings, the old harbour area, and cruise-related pickup points. For travellers arriving after a domestic flight, this creates a smooth transition from the airport to the next part of the journey.
For departures from RKV, a private transfer can also be arranged from your hotel or address to Reykjavik Airport. This is useful for early flights, tight schedules, or passengers who prefer not to rely on local taxi availability shortly before departure.
Transfers Between Reykjavik Airport and Keflavik International Airport
Airport-to-airport transfers are among the most important private transfer requests involving Reykjavik Airport. International flights generally use Keflavik International Airport, while many domestic flights use Reykjavik Airport. This means passengers may need to transfer from KEF to RKV after arriving in Iceland, or from RKV to KEF before leaving the country.
The road distance between the two airports is significant enough to require proper planning. Travellers should not treat the connection as a simple terminal change. The airports are separate facilities in different locations, and the transfer can be affected by weather, traffic, road conditions, and baggage handling time.
A pre-booked private transfer between Reykjavik Airport and Keflavik Airport is useful when the connection is time-sensitive, when travelling with children or luggage, or when arriving late in the evening. It also helps avoid confusion between airport codes and ensures the driver is instructed with the correct pickup and drop-off airport.
Chauffeur Service from Reykjavik City Airport
Chauffeur service from Reykjavik Airport is suitable for business travellers, corporate guests, private clients, and visitors who need flexible transportation in the capital area. Instead of booking a single point-to-point ride, travellers can arrange a chauffeur-driven vehicle for several hours, with waiting time and multiple stops included in the itinerary.
This can be useful for meetings in Reykjavik, hotel inspections, embassy visits, conference transportation, private sightseeing, restaurant transfers, or travel between the airport, city centre, harbour, and nearby towns. For corporate clients, a pre-arranged chauffeur service creates a more professional arrival experience and helps keep the schedule under control.
Where available, WelcomeTaxi can help arrange English-speaking drivers. This is especially useful for international travellers who may need assistance with pickup details, basic route coordination, and practical communication during the ride.
Long-Distance Transfers from Reykjavik Airport
Although Reykjavik Airport is primarily a city airport, it can also be the starting point for longer journeys across Iceland. Travellers arriving on a domestic flight may continue by road to destinations outside Reykjavik, including the Blue Lagoon, Selfoss, Hella, Hvolsvöllur, Borgarnes, the Golden Circle area, Snæfellsnes Peninsula, or other regional locations.
Long-distance transfers in Iceland require more planning than ordinary city transportation. Weather conditions, road closures, daylight hours, and route distance can all influence the journey. A pre-booked private transfer gives travellers a confirmed plan, a suitable vehicle, and a known route before departure.
This is particularly helpful for visitors who do not want to rent a car immediately after a flight, travellers carrying luggage or outdoor equipment, and groups that prefer direct transportation rather than combining domestic flights, buses, and local taxis.
Why Pre-Book a Transfer from Reykjavik Airport?
Because Reykjavik Airport is close to the city, some travellers assume that transport will always be simple. In many cases, it is. However, pre-booking can still be the better choice when timing, comfort, and reliability matter. A private transfer confirms the pickup point, destination, vehicle size, luggage requirements, and any special needs before the trip.
For airport connections, pre-booking is especially valuable. A missed transfer between RKV and KEF can affect an international flight or a domestic connection. With a private transfer, the journey is planned as part of the itinerary rather than arranged only after landing.
For business travellers, pre-booked chauffeur service helps avoid delays and gives a more professional experience. For families and groups, it provides space and convenience. For long-distance routes, it removes uncertainty about whether a regular taxi will be available or suitable for the journey.
Useful Travel Information for Reykjavik Airport
When booking a transfer from Reykjavik Airport, always check the airport code carefully. RKV refers to Reykjavik Airport, the city airport. KEF refers to Keflavik International Airport, Iceland’s main international airport. Confusing these two airports can cause serious timing problems, especially for connecting flights.
For a smooth transfer, provide the flight number, arrival or departure time, full pickup and drop-off addresses, passenger count, luggage amount, and any child seat requirements. If the transfer includes Keflavik Airport, the Blue Lagoon, a remote hotel, or a long-distance destination, it is better to request a tailored route rather than rely on a simple city transfer.
WelcomeTaxi provides international private transfer and chauffeur service solutions from Reykjavik City Airport to Reykjavik, Keflavik Airport, and destinations across Iceland. Whether you need a short airport pickup, an airport-to-airport connection, a chauffeur for several hours, or a long-distance transfer, pre-booked private transport from RKV helps make your Iceland journey more comfortable and predictable.
