Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a ride?

We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.

What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?

If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.

If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.

How do I know if my order has been accepted?

After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.

If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

How do I change my booking?

To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.

How can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your booking in two ways:

  1. Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
  2. By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?

If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.

If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.

Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.

How will I find my driver?

For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).

Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.

For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.

How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?

WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.

Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.

I can’t find my driver. What should I do?

If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.

Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.

If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.

Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Private Transfers from Las Américas International Airport (SDQ)

Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) is the main international gateway serving Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. Located approximately 30 kilometers east of the city center, the airport handles a large number of international flights from North America, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. It is one of the busiest airports in the country and an important arrival point for both tourism and business travel.

For many visitors, Santo Domingo is more than just an arrival city. Some travelers stay in the capital itself, while others continue toward beach resorts, cruise ports, golf destinations, or regional cities across the Dominican Republic. Because of these varied travel patterns, reliable airport transportation is an important part of the journey.

Pre-booked private transfers from Santo Domingo Airport offer a comfortable and predictable way to travel after arrival, avoiding the uncertainty often associated with regular taxis, long queues, or language barriers.

Transportation Options from Santo Domingo Airport

Several transportation options are available from SDQ Airport, including taxis, app-based ride services, hotel shuttles, car rentals, and private airport transfers.

Regular Airport Taxis

Official airport taxis are available outside the terminal. While they provide direct transportation, prices can vary depending on the destination, time of day, traffic conditions, and negotiation. During busy arrival periods, waiting times may also increase.

Many travelers arriving after long international flights prefer to avoid discussing fares or navigating local transportation immediately after landing.

Ride-Sharing Apps

Ride-hailing platforms operate in Santo Domingo, although pickup procedures at the airport may sometimes be less straightforward than in other countries. Pickup zones can change, and communication may occasionally be difficult for international travelers without local mobile service or Spanish language skills.

Rental Cars

Car rental companies are available at SDQ Airport. Renting a car can be useful for independent travel around the Dominican Republic, but driving conditions may feel unfamiliar to visitors. Traffic in Santo Domingo can be busy and aggressive, road signage varies, and parking in central areas may be limited.

For travelers who prefer a more relaxed arrival experience, private chauffeur service is often a more convenient alternative.

Private Airport Transfers

Private airport transfers remain one of the most comfortable and reliable transportation options from Las Américas International Airport. A pre-booked transfer provides fixed pricing, direct pickup, and a professional driver waiting at the airport upon arrival.

This option is particularly popular among families, business travelers, cruise passengers, and visitors traveling long distances to resorts or regional destinations.

Chauffeur Service in Santo Domingo

In addition to standard airport transfers, chauffeur service is increasingly востребован among travelers visiting Santo Domingo for business meetings, corporate events, embassy visits, conferences, and premium tourism experiences.

A professional chauffeur service offers several advantages:

  • scheduled pickup times,
  • private vehicle reserved exclusively for the client,
  • English-speaking drivers,
  • comfortable long-distance travel,
  • assistance with luggage,
  • flexible itineraries.

For visitors unfamiliar with local transportation systems, a pre-arranged chauffeur service simplifies travel planning and provides additional comfort and privacy.

Business travelers often use chauffeur services for transportation between SDQ Airport, the financial district of Santo Domingo, hotels, convention centers, and government offices.

Transfers from SDQ to Santo Domingo

The most common route from Las Américas International Airport is transportation to central Santo Domingo. Depending on traffic, travel time usually ranges from 35 to 60 minutes.

Popular areas include:

  • Zona Colonial,
  • Piantini,
  • Naco,
  • Gazcue,
  • Bella Vista,
  • Malecon waterfront hotels.

Traffic conditions in Santo Domingo can vary significantly during rush hours, especially on weekdays. Pre-booked airport transfers help travelers avoid confusion after arrival and provide direct transportation to hotels, apartments, offices, or cruise terminals.

Many visitors arriving at SDQ also continue directly to the Port of Santo Domingo for Caribbean cruises.

Long-Distance Transfers Across the Dominican Republic

One of the advantages of private transportation in the Dominican Republic is the ability to comfortably travel long distances between cities and resort areas.

Long-distance transfers from SDQ Airport are commonly booked to destinations such as:

Punta Cana

Punta Cana is one of the most requested long-distance transfer routes from Santo Domingo Airport. Although Punta Cana has its own airport, many travelers arrive through SDQ because of flight availability or better international fares.

The journey between Santo Domingo and Punta Cana typically takes around 2.5 to 3 hours.

La Romana and Bayahibe

These coastal destinations are popular for beach resorts, cruise departures, diving holidays, and golf tourism. Private transfers provide direct transportation without the need to change buses or coordinate multiple local taxis.

Santiago de los Caballeros

Located in the northern part of the country, Santiago is the Dominican Republic’s second-largest city and an important business center. Long-distance chauffeur transfers between Santo Domingo and Santiago are commonly used by both business and leisure travelers.

Puerto Plata and Samaná

Private transfers are also available to northern and northeastern resort regions. These journeys can take several hours, making comfortable vehicles and experienced drivers especially important.

Why Many Travelers Prefer Pre-Booked Transfers

While local taxis and public transportation are available, many international travelers choose private airport transfers for practical reasons.

Fixed Pricing

Pre-booked transportation usually includes confirmed pricing before arrival, reducing uncertainty and helping travelers plan their budget more accurately.

Flight Monitoring

Professional airport transfer services monitor incoming flights and adjust pickup times if flights are delayed.

English-Speaking Drivers

Language barriers can sometimes create difficulties for international visitors. English-speaking drivers help simplify communication, especially during airport arrivals and long-distance travel.

Comfort and Safety

Travelers arriving with luggage, children, or after long-haul flights often prefer direct door-to-door transportation instead of navigating unfamiliar public transportation systems.

Better Regional Connectivity

Many destinations in the Dominican Republic are easier to reach by private transfer than by public transport, especially resorts, villas, golf communities, and smaller coastal towns.

Local Transportation and Travel Tips

The Dominican Republic is one of the Caribbean’s most visited destinations, and transportation infrastructure continues to improve. However, local traffic conditions can still differ significantly from North America or Europe.

Visitors should keep several practical points in mind:

  • traffic congestion in Santo Domingo can be heavy during peak hours,
  • travel times may vary depending on weather and road conditions,
  • some resort destinations are located far from major airports,
  • intercity bus services may not always be convenient for travelers with large luggage.

For first-time visitors, pre-arranged transportation often provides a smoother and less stressful arrival experience.

Travel Between Airports

Travelers occasionally need transportation between different airports in the Dominican Republic. Private transfers are commonly booked between:

  • SDQ and Punta Cana Airport (PUJ),
  • SDQ and Cibao International Airport (STI),
  • SDQ and La Isabela Airport (JBQ).

These inter-airport routes are especially useful for multi-city itineraries, domestic connections, and travelers combining business and leisure travel within the country.

Private Transportation for Tourism and Business

Santo Domingo combines colonial history, business activity, Caribbean culture, and regional connectivity. As a result, transportation needs vary widely between travelers.

Some visitors require simple airport transfers, while others need full-day chauffeur service, long-distance intercity transportation, or executive vehicles for meetings and events.

Private transportation services provide flexibility that standard taxis and shared shuttles often cannot offer, particularly for travelers with tight schedules or customized itineraries.

For visitors arriving at Las Américas International Airport, pre-booked airport transfers remain one of the most convenient ways to begin a trip in the Dominican Republic comfortably and efficiently.
