Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a ride?

We recommend booking your transfer or hourly hire service at least 72 hours in advance. If you don’t have that much time, you can request an urgent transfer — we’ll let you know as soon as possible whether we can confirm it.

What pick-up time should I specify for the transfer?

If your transfer starts from an airport or railway station, please specify your flight or train arrival time as the start of your transfer. This helps the driver organize the meeting more accurately.

If your transfer starts from a hotel to an airport, please indicate the time you wish to be picked up at reception. You’ll need to calculate it yourself, allowing extra time for check-in. We recommend adding about 3 hours before your flight’s departure. For example, if your flight leaves at 14:00 and the trip takes 1 hour, your pick-up time should be 10:00.

How do I know if my order has been accepted?

After submitting your booking, you’ll receive an email with all trip details and your order status as “Waiting”. Once we receive and confirm your payment, the status will change to “Accepted”, and you’ll receive another email confirmation.

If you don’t receive the confirmation email, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

How do I change my booking?

To make changes to your booking, please contact our support team at office@welcome.taxi.

Important note: Requests for changes made less than 72 hours before your trip may be declined.

How can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your booking in two ways:

  1. Via the booking page on our website — use the cancellation number provided in your booking voucher, at least 72 hours before the trip.
  2. By contacting our support team if it’s less than 72 hours before your ride.
Important note: In case of urgent cancellation, we may not be able to refund your deposit. The free cancellation period is stated in your confirmation email.
What should I do if my flight is delayed?

If your flight is delayed by less than 30 minutes, the driver will adjust their arrival time automatically.

If the delay is longer, please inform the driver directly (their phone number is in your confirmation voucher) or contact WelcomeTaxi Customer Support at office@welcome.taxi. Please include your order number and the new arrival time.

Important note: The driver may charge an additional fee for extended waiting time.

How will I find my driver?

For airport transfers, if you’ve added the meet-and-greet option to your order, the driver will meet you in the arrivals area — right after passport control and baggage claim. You’ll see a name sign with your first and last names (or custom text, if specified in your booking).

Important note: We strongly recommend adding the meet-and-greet option to your airport transfer booking.

For hotel pickups, the driver will wait for you in the hotel lobby. Detailed meeting instructions and your driver’s contact number are provided in your booking confirmation voucher.

How can I be sure that my driver will pick me up?

WelcomeTaxi guarantees that your driver will do their best to meet you on time.

Both you and the driver will have each other’s phone or WhatsApp number. Please keep your mobile phone switched on at the time of pickup. If you can’t reach the driver, contact our support team immediately.

I can’t find my driver. What should I do?

If you can’t find your driver, please double-check the name signs again — the driver may have missed you in the crowd.

Try calling or messaging the driver via WhatsApp. If there’s no response within the meeting time, contact our support team.

If necessary, go to the airport’s Information Desk to arrange a local taxi to your destination.

Important note: If the driver fails to meet you, we will refund your payment.

Airport Transfers and Chauffeur Service from Tulum Airport

Tulum International Airport (TQO), officially known as Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport, is a modern aviation gateway serving Tulum, the southern Riviera Maya and the Caribbean coast of Quintana Roo, Mexico. The airport provides an alternative to arriving through Cancún International Airport and gives many visitors a more direct route to Tulum and nearby resort areas.

The airport is located southwest of Tulum rather than within the town itself. Passengers still need road transportation to reach Tulum Centro, the Beach Zone, nearby resorts or destinations elsewhere in the Riviera Maya. WelcomeTaxi offers pre-booked private airport transfers, chauffeur-driven vehicles and long-distance transportation from TQO to hotels, villas, holiday rentals and private addresses.

Transportation from TQO to Tulum

Ground transportation options from Tulum Airport include private transfers, scheduled buses, authorised taxis, shared shuttles and rental cars. Rail services may also be useful for selected regional journeys, depending on the current timetable and the location of the final destination.

Tulum is divided into several distinct areas. Tulum Centro, Aldea Zama, La Veleta and the coastal Hotel Zone are not interchangeable destinations. A traveller staying near the beach may have a considerably longer final journey than someone staying in the town centre, so the complete accommodation name and address should always be provided.

Pre-Booked Private Airport Transfer

A private transfer provides direct transportation from the airport to the passenger’s hotel, resort, villa or holiday rental. The vehicle is reserved specifically for the booking and selected according to the number of passengers, luggage and any additional requirements confirmed in advance.

This is particularly convenient for families, couples, business travellers and groups arriving with several suitcases. Passengers do not need to wait for unrelated travellers, make several hotel stops or arrange another vehicle after reaching a bus station.

English-speaking drivers may be requested when booking. Advance arrangements can make communication easier for international visitors and reduce uncertainty about hotel entrances, private villas and properties located along less familiar roads.

ADO and Other Scheduled Buses

Scheduled bus services may connect Tulum Airport with Tulum Centro and other destinations in the Riviera Maya. These services generally operate according to fixed departure times and terminate at designated bus stations rather than individual hotels.

A bus can be economical for solo travellers with limited luggage whose accommodation is close to the arrival station. Passengers staying in the Beach Zone, at a remote resort or in a private villa will usually need an additional taxi or local transfer for the final part of the journey.

Schedules and routes may change, so passengers should check the service available for their arrival date rather than relying on an older timetable.

Authorised Airport Taxis

Taxi services are available from authorised airport transportation points. A taxi can provide direct travel to Tulum, although prices, waiting times and available vehicle sizes may vary according to demand.

Passengers should use official airport providers and avoid accepting unconfirmed transportation offers. Groups and travellers carrying substantial luggage may find it safer to reserve the correct vehicle before arrival.

Shared Airport Shuttles

Shared shuttles may operate between the airport and selected resorts or hotel areas. The per-person price can be attractive, but passengers may need to wait for other flights and make several stops before reaching their own accommodation.

A private transfer normally provides a faster journey because the vehicle leaves for the booked destination without collecting unrelated passengers or stopping at multiple hotels.

Rental Cars

Rental cars are available for travellers planning an independent itinerary around the Riviera Maya or the Yucatán Peninsula. Driving can provide flexibility when visiting cenotes, archaeological sites and destinations outside the main resort areas.

Before renting, visitors should review insurance coverage, deposits, fuel policies, road conditions and parking arrangements. Access and parking can be particularly difficult in the Tulum Beach Zone, where roads are narrow and traffic may be slow.

Maya Train Connections

The Maya Train network serves destinations across southeastern Mexico, including locations in Quintana Roo and neighbouring states. Rail travel may be useful for passengers continuing towards selected regional destinations, but it does not provide door-to-door transportation.

Travellers should check the current station access, departure time and connection arrangements. A separate transfer may still be required between the airport terminal, railway station and the final hotel or resort.

Transfers to Tulum Centro

Tulum Centro is the town’s main urban area, with restaurants, shops, local accommodation and intercity bus services. It is separate from the coastal resort strip and generally provides easier road access than the Beach Zone.

Private transfers can take passengers directly to hotels and holiday rentals in Tulum Centro, La Veleta and Aldea Zama. The complete address is important because many smaller properties may not have prominent signs or conventional hotel reception areas.

Transfers to the Tulum Beach and Hotel Zone

Tulum’s Beach Zone extends along the Caribbean coast and includes boutique hotels, luxury resorts, beach clubs and restaurants. The coastal road can become congested, especially during busy travel periods, weekends and major events.

Some hotels are located behind gates, along narrow access roads or within areas where large vehicles have restricted access. Passengers should provide the exact accommodation name and any arrival instructions supplied by the property.

A private transfer is especially useful for the Beach Zone because public buses do not normally provide direct hotel delivery. Door-to-door transportation also avoids carrying luggage from a roadside stop or arranging another vehicle in central Tulum.

Private Transfers along the Riviera Maya

Tulum Airport serves not only Tulum itself but also resorts and communities throughout the southern Riviera Maya. WelcomeTaxi can arrange direct transfers to hotels, residences and holiday properties along the Caribbean coast.

Akumal

Akumal is known for its beaches, resort developments and access to nearby cenotes. Transfers can be arranged to accommodation in Akumal Bay and the surrounding resort corridor.

Passengers should provide the full resort name because properties marketed as being in Akumal may be spread across a wide area along the main coastal highway.

Puerto Aventuras and Xpu-Há

Private transportation is available to Puerto Aventuras, Xpu-Há and neighbouring resorts. These destinations are located north of Tulum and may be reached directly without travelling first to a bus station.

Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is a major resort city and the principal mainland ferry point for travel to Cozumel. A private transfer from TQO can take passengers directly to a hotel, private address or the ferry terminal area.

Travellers continuing by ferry should allow time for road travel, baggage handling, ticket procedures and walking to the correct pier. Ferry tickets are normally separate from the airport transfer service.

Cancún and the Hotel Zone

Longer transfers can be arranged from Tulum Airport to downtown Cancún, Cancún International Airport and resorts in the Cancún Hotel Zone. This may be useful when travellers arrive through TQO but continue to accommodation farther north.

Because many properties use Cancún or Riviera Maya in their marketing names despite being located outside the city, the exact hotel address must be confirmed before booking.

Connections Between TQO and CUN

Tulum International Airport and Cancún International Airport serve overlapping parts of Quintana Roo, but they are separated by a substantial road journey. Passengers may need an airport-to-airport transfer when combining flights issued on separate tickets or when an airline changes its operating airport.

A pre-booked private transfer provides direct transportation between TQO and CUN without the need to travel through Tulum or Playa del Carmen and change services. Passengers should allow a generous connection period for baggage collection, traffic, airline check-in and security procedures.

Before departure, always verify the airport code shown on the ticket. TQO refers to Tulum International Airport, while CUN refers to Cancún International Airport.

Transfers to Cozumel

Cozumel is an island and cannot be reached directly by road from Tulum Airport. Passengers normally travel by private transfer to the ferry terminal in Playa del Carmen and continue to Cozumel by passenger ferry.

WelcomeTaxi can arrange the road section from TQO to Playa del Carmen. Passengers should check the current ferry schedule and allow additional time during holidays, busy weekends or periods of adverse weather.

Professional Chauffeur Service in Tulum

WelcomeTaxi chauffeur service can be arranged for private sightseeing, business appointments, weddings, restaurant visits and journeys involving several locations. A vehicle and driver may be retained for an agreed number of hours rather than booking a separate taxi for each trip.

Hourly chauffeur hire is useful for visiting cenotes, beach clubs, archaeological sites and hotels spread across the Tulum area. It can also simplify transportation for weddings and private events where guests need to move between accommodation, ceremony venues and reception locations.

The planned itinerary, approximate duration and number of passengers should be provided in advance. Vans and minibuses may be arranged for families, event groups and larger parties when required.

Long-Distance Transfers from Tulum Airport

Private long-distance transfers can be arranged from TQO to destinations across Quintana Roo and the Yucatán Peninsula. Possible routes include Bacalar, Chetumal, Valladolid, Cobá, Chichén Itzá, Mérida and other cities, resorts or archaeological areas.

A direct vehicle is particularly useful for properties located away from bus terminals and railway stations. It also allows families and groups to remain together with their luggage throughout the journey.

For longer routes, the service duration, planned rest stops and final destination should be confirmed in advance. Multi-day chauffeur transportation may also be requested for itineraries involving several destinations.

Why Pre-Book Instead of Taking a Regular Taxi?

Pre-booking confirms that an appropriate vehicle will be available when the passenger arrives. This is valuable during holiday periods and busy travel seasons, when airport transportation demand may be high.

The transfer is arranged according to the exact accommodation, passenger count and luggage requirements. Families requiring child seats and groups needing vans or minibuses can request these before travelling.

A confirmed private transfer also provides clearer pickup instructions and direct transportation. Passengers do not need to compare offers after landing, wait for a shared vehicle or make a further connection from a bus or train station.

Useful Information for Arriving Passengers

Passengers should provide the complete flight number, arrival date and accommodation details when booking. Flight information helps identify the correct arrival and makes pickup coordination easier.

Tulum properties are spread across the town, jungle and coastal areas. The hotel name alone may not always be sufficient, particularly for private villas and small boutique properties. A full address, map location or property instructions can help prevent delays.

Mobile reception may be inconsistent in some coastal and rural areas. Travellers should save their transfer confirmation and driver contact details before leaving the airport.

Traffic around Tulum and along the coastal highway may become heavy during peak hours, holidays and special events. For departure transfers, passengers should allow enough time for the road journey, check-in and airport security.

Book a Private Transfer from TQO

WelcomeTaxi provides private airport transfers, chauffeur-driven vehicles and long-distance transportation from Tulum International Airport. Services can be arranged to Tulum Centro, the Beach Zone, Akumal, Playa del Carmen, Cancún and destinations throughout the Riviera Maya.

Booking in advance offers direct door-to-door transportation with a vehicle selected for the passengers, luggage and itinerary, providing an organised start to a holiday or business trip in Mexico.
